Did you know that July is National Park & Recreation Month? It’s a great time to go out there and spend some time with nature. There are so many beautiful things to see and experience. All over the US, recreation departments have organized events and activities to help families spend quality time together, enjoy nature, and get active.
This is a great time to not only make the most of the beautiful weather, but also to take a stand against the obesity epidemic and technology trends that consistently keep more kids indoors and living less active lifestyles. I know my kids spend too much time on their electronic devices and not enough time outside!
Why do you love your local parks? As part of Park and Recreation Month, the National Recreation and Park Association wants you to show your love for local parks and recreation and wants everyone to answer the question, “I Love my Parks and Recreation Because…”
They have a fill in the blank social media poster that can be filled in and shared, and a fun month-long weekly photo contest that encourages everyone to show and share the LOVE for local parks! The NRPA website includes information and even includes free downloadable resources as well as a calendar of events scheduled nationwide.
This is a great time to visit your local parks because your kids are out of school! What was summer like when you were a kid? Did you spend time outside hunting for rollie pollies, playing kickball with neighborhood friends, exploring the trails and woods, spending days at your local rec center, and swimming until your fingers shriveled. We don’t spend enough time doing the things I enjoyed when I was younger. I really want my kids to experience life outside!
I am sure you have a wonderful local park or rec center near your house. Go and out and enjoy some time together as a family! You can’t see what we wrote but we love our Parks & Recreations centers because we love to play outside together!

We're at our parks all the time. We're fortunate to have a small zoo across from our park and we go there weekly.
