As you know, I home school my kids. I love that I am involved in what my children are learning. It is a lot of fun. We use Sonlight Curriculum. We love it because it comes with a teacher’s guide and all the books we need for the year. I am not really a “teacher,” but using this material really helps me make sure they are learning what they need to learn.

On thing that I don’t like about the material we use is the lack of “hands on” activities. We learn about stuff, write stories, and answer questions, but I feel like we need to practice the lessons more. PowerMyLearning is an awesome website that is really going to help us practice what we are learning.

For example, we have been working on nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. We talk about them but unless you are dissecting sentences, it is hard to learn the difference. We found a really fun game called Grammar Ninja. It gives us a sentence and then asks us to find the nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives. It is a really fun game to practice learning these topics.

When you are finished you can see how well you did. You can play again at a harder level or stay at the same level to better your time. This is exactly what I was looking for to help my kids enforce the things they are learning.

Another fun game was a math game that is similar to a game that is popular with adults. My son saw  this game and remembered seeing his grandma playing a similar game. The point is to shoot the number so it is next to a number and the sum would equal 10. Our whole family was playing it and was having a great time!

We have been learning about mammals, and there is a fun game that is all about mammals. Once you pick your answer it gives you a little more information.

I am so excited about this website. It is like a hub of so much useful educational material. I found so many topics that we are studying. Plus they have many different levels so we will be able to use this resource for so many years. This website is also helpful since I am teaching 2 of my kids at the same time. I can set up an educational game for one of my sons, and he can work on that while I am reading to my other son.

If you are looking for fun way to help your kids practice what they are learning, you must check out PowerMyLearning. I know our family will be using this website several times a week. I was playing with it on a Friday night and my 3rd grader kept asking me to go back to play the games. It is that fun!

I noticed the site is good for high school students also. I think we will try it out as we always need extra help in Math.
