I have been blogging for over 5 years now. It has been a lot of fun and I have learned so much. I get asked very often, “What do I need to do to start a blog?”. So I thought it would be a good idea to start a series about starting a Mommy Blog. I will share some of the basics and some of the things I have learned along the way. Of course I will also share how you can make a money with a blog. It is a lot of hard work, but if you have the time to put into it – it is worth it!
In order to have a blog, you need a web address and a hosting company. There are many options available, but for the past 5 years we have used Bluehost.
They are competitive and cost-effective. Their plans start at just $3.95/month which includes a free domain registration. They also have one-click WordPress installation and theme download which is perfect for new bloggers who don’t have any CSS or scripting knowledge.
If you don’t want to use WordPress, they also have their drag-and-drop builder: Weebly with hundreds of free themes to choose from. They also have US-based customer support available via phone, live chat, or email 24/7.
It is very easy to set up. You can get a brand new blog URL or you can transfer a blog you already have. When my husband first suggested that I start a blog, I thought he was crazy. There was no way I could understand how all the HTML stuff worked. Where would I start? We got set up with Bluehost and it was a breeze. I was able to quickly and easily publish blog posts to share!
