This information is brought to you by alternaVites. All opinions are my own. #99HealthyDays

Most people make New Years Resolutions to get healthy, eat right, and lose weight. According to statisticbrain.com, 45% of American make a New Year’s Resolution. Out of all the people that make a resolution, only 8% are actually successful in achieving their resolution.

Instead of waiting to make a New Year’s Resolution, alternaVites and I want to challenge you to make a short term goal. Starting today we want to help you get healthy. We are going to start a 99 day challenge that will end on Thanksgiving Day. Everyday we will share something on Twitter that we hope will inspire you to get healthy and fit and also encourage you!

Follow the hashtag #99HealthyDays on Twitter and @AlternaVites and @Janellcp.  If you have a tip or some inspiration you want to share make sure you use the hashtag #99HealthyDays – we want to see all your great ideas! The more we are invested in each other’s health, the more likely we are to all stick with it and inspire those around us to do the same.

In starting Rich Vitamins and launching the alternaVites brand, their goal has always been to help improve the health and well-being of their customers on both a small and large context. We think #99HappyDays is just an evolutionary step as we continue this mission!

 It’s easy to get started!

  1. Drink water – replace just 1 carbonated beverage per day with a glass of water. It is better for you and you will not be consuming so many calories per day. I have replaced all my drinks with water and I believe this has really helped me lose weight.
  2. Take the stairs – Skip the elevator and use the stairs. This will help you burn some calories and get your heart pumping.
  3. Take a walk – Even if you take a 30 minute walk a few days a week, this can make a huge improvement in your health. You burn calories and will feel better. When I worked in a large office building I would get 2 – 15 minute breaks during the day. I would take a few laps around the parking lot. It got me moving and made me feel better.
  4. Make substitutions in you favorite recipes – Change out little things to help create healthier meals. Use oil and vinegar based salad dressing instead of cream based recipes.  Fill up your plate with veggies.
  5. Take a Multi-vitamin like alternaVites – These are great, especially if you don’t like to swallow vitamins and they taste awesome!
  6. Take the furthest parking spot – Get in a few extra steps by skipping the closer parking spots.
  7. Purposely eat 1 more serving of fruit or vegetable per day –  Stick an apple or banana in your bag as a snack. My kids love to eat red peppers that I cut into sticks.
  8. Schedule your annual check up – Many people can go years without seeing a doctor. Call your doctor this week and schedule an exam.
  9. Play with your kids – grab the jump rope, tennis rackets, or a basketball and head outside with your kids. The weather is perfect to enjoy a little outdoor fun!
  10. Get a Fitbit! My husband has been using a Fitbit for a few months. He has lost weight and feels healthier. His goal is 10,000 steps per day. Having a goal really helps you actually make sure you reach your goal. Some nights he will be close to his step count and he will go out to the treadmill and run a little more or run up and down the stairs a few times. Find something to help you keep track of your goals!

I just spent my summer vacation in Florida. I did not exercise nor did I eat healthy. I feel out of shape and I want to make some changes. I am not waiting for January 1, 2015! There are so many little things that you can do to be healthier. My goal over the next 99 days is to eat better and exercise. I am also making the goal to lose 12 pounds. I will keep you posted about my progress and I hope we can encourage each other along the way!

I want to set a good example for my kids and teach them healthy habits! Let’s work together and have #99HealthyDays! Are you with me???

These are all great tips. I just bought myself a pedometer. I purposefully walk a little extra every day to make up my count. During the day, I usually take the furthest parking spot.

I have a bad tendency of not drinking enough water! I need to remember, my trainer tells me all the time!
