Making Connections With Brands on Social Media

It used to be that if you wanted to get the attention of people, you would buy a billboard or an ad in the newspaper, create something catchy, and hope people would pay attention. Now, however, we have seen the rise of social media. The recent #ALSicebucketchallenge has taken the internet by storm, bringing awareness and dollars to a worthy cause.

Everywhere you go people are on their cell phones. They could be checking email, scheduling an appointment, checking their Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook stream, or just playing a game. Most people spend more time with their cell phone than with anything else, and if you’re like me, you want to interact with people. If that interaction can save you time or money, it’s even better.

Our family uses social media all the time. I find great coupons, new recipes or even tips from companies I love. Many of the bigger brands are using social media like crazy. That’s something we all have seen, but there are plenty of smaller companies who are on social media as well. Dr. Minelle Tendler is an Orthodontist in Boca Raton, and is a good example of someone in the medical field keeping her clients active through social media. Her patient rewards hub is a fun way to engage her clients and keep them thinking of her practice.

Many of the smaller businesses in your community provide a lot more value than you think on social media, offering coupons or special discounts or unique tips. Be sure to check out the Facebook pages of the local businesses or their Twitter and Instagram feeds. You can save a lot of time and money by simply connecting with them on social media.

Another advantage of interacting with brands on social media is that, in many cases, they are quicker to respond. Since I don’t like talking on the phone, I usually send a quick tweet or Facebook message to a company and, within minutes, I have an answer.

Don’t be afraid to connect with brands on social media! You’d be surprised what they are doing to get your attention there.
