It is that time of year again. The weather is changing and you or someone you know will probably get the seasonal flu. It stinks to be sick. So it is important to do what you can to avoid getting the nasty flu. The easiest way to avoid the flu is to get your immunizations.  I don’t like, to nor have the time to, be stuck in bed for a few days. I don’t know about you, but my house doesn’t take care of itself!

Walgreens makes it affordable and easy to get your immunizations. Many Walgreens stores have Healthcare clinics that provides a variety of services including immunizations. They can usually see you the same day you need them. You can even schedule an appointment online. How easy is that?

I have visited several countries over the years. One of the first things you need to do when you plan an overseas trip is to check to see what immunizations you need to get before you get on that airplane. It is so easy for us to go get the immunization we need to protect ourselves., but in other countries they don’t have access to immunization to save their lives!

Immunization is one of the world’s biggest public health success stories. According to the statics,  1 in 5 children around the globe still lack access to the lifesaving immunizations. Coordinated worldwide vaccination efforts have made significant progress, particularly in reducing cases of measles and polio, but there is more to do according to the United Nations.

  • Around the world, a child dies every 20 seconds from a vaccine preventable disease.
  • One in five children are dying before age five from a disease that is preventable.
  • Two of the biggest killers of children under five years old are pneumonia and diarrhea, accounting for more than one-third of childhood deaths worldwide.

From September 2nd through October 13th, for every flu shot or other immunization you receive at Walgreens, they will help provide a lifesaving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign. Their mission is to help protect children in the developing world from preventable diseases. Together this campaign can supply up to 3 Million vaccines to kids that need it most!

Children around the globe need immunizations as much as my kids need them to stay healthy.

This year when you plan to get your flu shot (or any other immunization) schedule an appointment at Walgreens and help people all over the world. Nobody deserves to suffer through illnesses that can be prevented. This is an easy way for you to help others around the world!

Have you traveled overseas? What types of immunizations have you had to get to prepare for your trip?
