The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg

Sharing is caring!

Why does it seem so hard to make the perfect hard boiled egg? Either the shell doesn’t peel very well or the yolk looks funny inside. I have tried so many different ways and I think I have finally figured it out!

I had heard about people boiling the water first and then adding the eggs so I thought I would give that a try. Every time before I have just put the eggs in the water and let it boil. And that never worked!

So here is what I did to make sure I had the perfect hard boiled egg.

Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs

Items Needed:

  • Eggs
  • Large pot
  • Water
  • Bowl full of ice water

Instructions:

  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Gently set the eggs into the water.  (I used a slotted spoon.)
  2. Turn down the heat and gently simmer for 14 minutes.
  3. Immediately remove from the hot water and add them to the bowl of cold ice water. Let them sit in the ice water for 5 minutes.
  4. I gently bang the eggs on the side of the sink and remove the shells under some running water.

There you have it! Just in time for all those eggs that you need to make for Easter!

I will have to use your technique the next time I make hard boiled eggs. A pet peeve of mine is when the egg won't peal and takes half the white with the shells. Thanks for these helpful tips.

I am going to give this a try. Usually I waste so many eggs that I barely have enough to make a sandwich.
