A Few Questions For You……

I have written before about why I prefer to shop online. I love the convience, the extra coupon code, getting cash back, etc. Since Christmas is coming and that is when we spend the most money, I want to know how I can help you save money while shopping.

So I want to know- Do you like to shop online? If not, why? Do you think it is not secure to enter your credit card information online?

If you do shop online, do you use Ebates or Shop at Home? Why not? It’s just one extra step when you are shopping online and you accumulate a percentage back every time you shop online. Why wouldn’t you want to get paid when you shop?

Trust me when I first joined Ebates and Shop at Home I always forgot to go thru them first. But eventually you go to Ebates or Shop at Home first and see who pays more :) You know what else is great about Ebates and Shop at Home - when you refer your friends and they buy something through Ebates or Shop at Home you get $5! Right now in my Ebates accoung I have $25 and I have $7 in my Shop at Home account.

Now, tell me what you are looking to buy for Christmas – I will do my best to find the best deal for you!

Cyber Monday will be here before we know it and they will have some awesome sales available online! (Cyber Monday is the Black Friday on the internet – think about it – no long lines, coupon codes, cash back…it’s a great day to shop online!)

Need Help Managing Your Accounts?

Manilla is a free web based service that helps consumers better manage all of their household accounts, including financial, utilities, subscriptions and travel rewards programs, in one secure place online.

Under a single password, Manilla provides customers with an automated, organized view of all of their account information, text and/or email reminders to pay bills and unlimited storage of account documents that Manilla has seamlessly retrieved for the consumer.

Why is Manilla necessary? Most people have more than 20 different household accounts, including three to four credit cards, several travel and hotel rewards accounts, multiple magazine and newspaper subscriptions, plus cable, phone, and other assorted utility bills. In order to stay on top of all this, people have to manage daily incoming paper mail, an array of online usernames and passwords, and websites in order to access important account information and take action. Manilla seamlessly retrieves all your account information – current balances, previous payments, upcoming bills due – and stores it for you in one secure place. Most importantly, you need only one password to view, manage and organize it all.

Why I Prefer to Shop Online

Last year I did about 90% of my Christmas shopping online. It was so easy and stress less. Many stores offer better discounts (in my opinion) online. Plus there is a larger inventory to chose from when shopping online. Here are my reasons why I think it’s better to shop online.

Extra Discounts – I can find more coupon codes for online shopping. For example, you can use a coupon for $5 off $50 when shopping online at Target. Or recently I used a 30% off code when buying shoes at Payless Shoe Store. Sometimes there are printable coupons you can take to the store but more often there are codes you can only use online. Retail Me Not is an excellent source for coupon codes.

Cash Back – When you shop online through Ebates or Shop at Home, they give you an percentage back from your purchase. Many times they have bonus cash back amounts too. For example, I bought a Pack & Play from Target and used my $5 off $50 code. Plus they were having a bonus cash back of 10% back when you shopped through Ebates. I think I paid $70 for the Pack & Play but I earned $7 in my Ebates account. I bought $30 worth of printer ink the other day and got $10 back in my Ebates account. It was the best price for the ink and I got an additional huge cash back amount! Every extra little discount helps! (You can reall all about Ebates and Shop at Home here.) Your cash back gets put in an account and they send you your money every quarter.)  Ebates and Shop at Home often have exclusive coupon codes you can only use when shopping through their site. The 30% off Payless Shoe coupon I used, I only saw it when I went through Shop at Home.

Easy to Sort – I love that when I need clothes for my daughter I can search for girls, size 2T and I can see everything they have available. At the store I would have to look at all the racks that could be filled with a lot of stuff she can’t use. I can even see the lowest priced stuff first.

Price Comparison – If I see something I really want and I think it’s a good deal, I can Froogle it to see if there is a better deal out there. Yes, most of us have smart phone but my phone never seems to work in Target or it takes forever to find the product.

Read the Reviews – Want to know if it’s a good product? Do a quick search of the product and you will find many reviews. I find most of my reviews at Amazon. That will save you a trip back to the store if the product is what you think it will be.

I can shop even when the store is closed – I have 3 little kids. It is a lot easier to shop online when they go to bed than drag them to the store with me. Not having to drag the family with me helps me to just get what I need and nothing else.

Shopping with my free gift cards – I have earned so many free gift cards with Swagbucks and Opinion Outpost.  Opinion Outpost will earn you some money quicker than Swagbucks. Click here to read about Opinion Outpost. I love Opinion Outpost because you can instantly cash out for Amazon Gift Cards and soon the will offer payments through PayPal!

Don’t get me wrong – I also love going to the stores. I have found plenty of deals in-store and there are some pretty great coupons to use in-store.  I just love the flexibility of shopping online and the extra discounts.

Another tip - many stores will offer free shipping. Look for coupon codes or ways to get free shipping. For example, Amazon offers free 2 day shipping when you join Amazon Moms or if you are a student. ShopRunner  is another place that offers a free 30 day trial that offers 2 day shipping at many retailers. ( Get A Free 30-Day Trial to ShopRunner Now!)

Amazon Moms gives you 3 free months of free 2 day shipping. Plus for every $25 you spend on baby stuff you get an additional month.

Advice To Keep You & Your Family Cold & Flu Free

Don’t you just had cold and flu season? When my son was in Kindergarten it felt like we were always at the doctors office with a sick kid. I hated seeing them sick!

I tried to teach my son some things so that he would bring home less germs. Here are some of the things we try with our kids to keep the germs out of our house!

  • I told him to wash his hands as much as possible. In his class they taught him to sing Happy Birthday twice so they knew their hands were clean.
  • He also had a small bottle of antibacterial gel connected to his lunch box. That way when it was snack time or lunch time it reminded him to sanitize his hands. It’s hard to get little kids to remember stuff so I try to make it as obvious as possible!
  • Teach them how to cough and sneeze – They should sneeze or cough into their elbow. This makes it harder to pass any germs. Once my oldest son did it my younger son would also cover his mouth with his elbow.
  • Flu shot – We have never got the flu shot but I think they could have really helped. They are quick and easy and not very expensive.*
  • Soup – If we started to get the sniffles when we were little my mom always made a pot of chicken soup. A little onion, carrots, potatoes, and a whole chicken. She cooked it for a few hours and it always made us better. It always seems to prevent us from getting a full fledged cold! Plus it was really delicious!

Did you know that the experts at Lysol recommend getting a flu shot, washing your hands with soap and water and scrub thoroughly for 20 seconds, and routinely clean and disinfect surfaces to help stop the spread of germs. Lysol Spray and Lysol Wipes kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses on hard non porous surfaces.

I love Lysol wipes. When I use them I always feel like I an disinfecting my house. They smell so fresh and I know they are really cleaning!

Those are my tips for keeping germs out of my house. It also helps that we home school. What does your family do to keep out the sick germs? I would love to hear your tips!

A Day In The Life Of A Stay At Home Mom

I am sure there many moms that can relate to my day. Not every day is this busy and some days are more work. I try to get through the day by planning ahead. What do you do to make your day go smoother?

I have 3 kids – 2 boys and a girl ages 6,3, and 1. They keep me busy. They are constantly eating! I also homeschool my 6 year old.

So here’s my day…..

7:50am
Get out of bed – hubby was up at 7am so he was downstairs with our 3 year old. The other 2 did not wake up until 8am. I get dressed and run down stairs. Hubby goes to work at 8am. I make some breakfast. Some English muffins, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and something else. Get kids dressed and change baby’s diaper.

9:15am
I start to set up for home school and they say “I’m hungry!”, so I go and make some more PB&J sandwiches. As I walk by the dining room table I am stepping on rice that we had for dinner last night. I don’t have the time to pull out the table and clean it so I sweep it all in the corner. I will clean it later. We start school by 9:30am.

9:30am
Start school – I let my 3 year old play in his room and baby is sitting with us.

10:45am
Break time – Let the kids eat chips. The bag was pretty much all crumbs, so they didn’t eat many. While they are snacking I load the dishwasher and add ingredients to the bread machine to make some croissants for some pigs in a blanket. Then I take some potatoes and put them in the crock pot with some carrots. We will eat those with our burgers for dinner.

11:00am
Put the baby upstairs to take a nap. Finish home school while 3 year old draws on our white board. After a little bit he sits with us while we read.

12:15pm
We are finished with home school. (We will read a little more tonight.) I sneak some lunch – I just heat stuff up from last night. Get the dough out of the bread machine and prepare it for the pigs in a blanket. After I ran out hot dogs I put some mini chocolate chips in them. Pigs in a blanket are done so I bake the other croissants. While those are baking I make some banana bread. I made them in 4 mini loaves so I can give some away. So kids are eating I am folding 2 loads of laundry. I realize there is another load in the dryer and I think twice about getting them. I did – I shouldn’t have – it was a large load! All the pigs in a blankets and croissants are gone! Glad I made 4 mini banana bread loaves. (If you have been looking for a great, no fail banana bread recipe this is it! It is always moist and always works. I live at 7,500 ft so it’s rare I find a great recipe!) I cleaned up a little.

Get Outside And Play!

Did you know that September 24, 2011 is Worldwide Day of Play to turn off the TV and play outside! The Worldwide Day of Play is the centerpiece of Nickelodeon’s The Big Help, a program to empower kids and families to make healthy lifestyle choices every day.

I love that such a popular children’s network is encouraging kids to shut off the TV and play outside.

Did you know that…

  • Physical activity can improve health, self-esteem and the well being of children
  • It  also teaches kids a healthier lifestyle of limited TV time and a more physical activities.

My kids do play outside a lot but I still think there are days whey they watch too much TV.

Clorox 2® is a proud sponsor of Nickelodeon’s 8th Annual Worldwide Day of Play. Would you like to participate in The Worldwide Day of Play? If so, you can take the Clorox2® Play 2Day pledge at http://clorox2play2day.com to play outside. I think it’s a good idea if we show our kids how important it is to play outside.

Our family loves to play outside! We live on a seminary campus with about 15 other kids. After we finish homeschooling my kids get so excited when they hear kids playing on the playground. We have playground equipment, a basketball court, and a large field to use all the time. My kids are 6 years old, 3 years old, and 1 year old. There is something for all of them to play with!

My 6 year old and 3 year old love to climb on the playground equipment. They love to make forts over one of the toys out there. They also love to just play soccer or run around and chase each other. They also love to get their bikes out and ride them all over the basketball court! I would love to get a kite for them to play with out there also.

My 1 year old loves to ride around in her walker on the basketball court. She can walk but she loves that she can run really fast and chase the older kids. They are always so happy to be playing outside. It is so great that we have so much space to play outside!

Many times they ask 5 minutes after they wake up if they can play! I know they love playing outside and I love that they are getting exercise and having loads of fun!

So I have shared our favorite things to do outside. What does your family like to play outside?

I think it’s great that Clorox2 is sponsering this event. I know most of my kids clothes need to be washed in Clorox2 after a full day of play!

Clorox2 is offer up to $4.50 in coupons when you complete 5 or more of these activities!
