How to Make Your Own Foaming Hand Soap

I was so excited when I saw this post! It is from Be Centsable. I love the foaming hand soap I would buy it on sale at Bath and Body Works. Having a 4 year old that uses a lot of soap we see to run out of our hand soap a lot and the foaming soap seems to last a lot longer! I have saved the foaming soap bottles with the hope of finding a good way to make my own! It is very simple!

What you need:
Foaming soap pump
Liquid soap
Water

How to:

1. Add 2 tablespoons of soap or fill up to a third of the pump.
2. Fill the rest of the pump with water.

It is so easy! I used Soft Soap Anti-bacterial soap and it smells so good! So give it a try and tell me what you think!

*Bath & Body Works is always having sales on these soaps. (Right now they are 3/$10) Many times there are also coupons for something free when you buy anything! Check back for these great coupons! The Many Uses of Vinegar

I just bought a gallon of vinegar so I needed to find some useful ways to use it! Here are some of my favorites!

Attack spaghetti, barbecue, or ketchup stains with a white distilled vinegar and water solution.

Get cleaner laundry! Add about 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar to the last rinse. The acid in white distilled vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics, yet strong enough to dissolve the alkalies in soaps and detergents. Besides removing soap, white distilled vinegar prevents yellowing, acts as a fabric softener and static cling reducer, and attacks mold and mildew.

Remove soap scum and clean the hoses of your washing machine with white distilled vinegar. Periodically run the machine with only a cup of white distilled vinegar in it—nothing else added to the wash cycle.

Remove soap buildup and odors from the dishwasher by pouring a cup of white distilled vinegar inside the empty machine and running it through a whole cycle. Do monthly.

Make your own scouring cleanser by combining 1/4 cup baking soda with 1 tablespoon liquid detergent. Add just enough white distilled vinegar to give it a thick but creamy texture.

Discourage ants by spraying undiluted white distilled vinegar outside doorways and windowsills, around appliances and wherever you find the pests coming in.

Renew sponges and dishrags by placing them in just enough water to cover them. Then add 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar. Let them soak overnight.

To make the toilet bowl sparkle, pour in a cup or more of diluted white distilled vinegar and let it sit several hours or overnight. Scrub well with the toilet brush and flush.

For an economical and environmentally friendly floor cleaner, mix a solution of 3 drops dishwashing liquid to 1/3 part white distilled vinegar, 1/3 part alcohol, and 1/3 part water. Spray sparingly and mop for a fast clean-up.

Removed carpet stains with a paste of 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar and 1/4 cup salt or baking soda. Rub into the carpet stain and let dry. Vacuum up the residue the next day. (Always test on an out-of-sight part of the carpet first).

Remove wallpaper easily by using a paint roller to wet the surface very thoroughly with a solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and hot water. Or spray on until saturated.

To kill germs, spray full-strength white distilled vinegar on doorknobs and then wipe them dry.

Stop insect stings and bites from itching by dabbing them with a cotton ball saturated with undiluted white distilled vinegar.

Soothe sunburn with a spray of white distilled vinegar, repeating as often as you like. Ice-cold white distilled vinegar will feel even better, and may prevent blistering and peeling.

Tenderize meat with white distilled vinegar. Use it in marinades or when slow cooking any tough, inexpensive cuts of meat.

Use Vinegar To Get Rid of Clothing Stains. Soak the garment in full strength vinegar. Stains should wash right out.

Making Your Own Laundry Soap

I have seen other recipes online to make your own soap but this looks like the easiest! At 7 cents a load it is definetly worth trying! Thanks to my friend Anna at the Thrifty Geek for this great, frugal idea!

Homemade Laundry Soap

1 bar of Fels Naptha soap. This can be found in the laundry section of your store or maybe in the bathing soap section. If you can not find this soap, Ivory soap or another natural lye soap works fine.

Borax This can be found in the laundry section of your store.

Arm & Hammer Washing Soda – Don’t confuse this with baking soda. It is two different products. This can also be found in your laundry section.

Putting it together.
You can use a food processor for this but if you need to hand grate, just grate soap fine over a large bowl.

Grate 1 bar of soap. If using a food processor, cut the soap into chunks and put in food processor and add the remaining ingredients as follows.
1/2 Cup Borax
1/2 Cup Washing Soda
Mix together completely. If you are using the food processor, mix until the soap chunks are fine.

Get a container that has a lid that seals and place your detergent in it. The measurement that you use is 1 tablespoon for one load of laundry. I just keep a measuring spoon in my container for easy use. Be sure to write the measurement on the container to where others can help you with the laundry.

It is worth a try! Anna says it works great and gets the stains out!

This detergent has no smell. If you want a fragrance, then I would suggest buying a soap that has fragrance and maybe doing 1/2 of the Nels Naptha and 1/2 the fragrance soap and then adjust if needed.

Let me know what you think!
