Earlier this year we moved into a new house. When I was shopping for appliances, I wanted ENERGY STAR products. I knew that ENERGY STAR certified consumer electronic products would save me money because they are more efficient in all usage modes: sleep, idle, and on. It helps reduce my energy bill while helping to protect the environment.
Best Buy makes it so easy to see how much money you are going to save when you buy ENERGY STAR products. Each product has two price tags: the purchase price and the cost of operating the product. For example:
- A standard clothes washer that’s older than 10 years costs around $180 to run every year. An ENERGY STAR certified washer can save $40 a year in operating costs. With a certified model, you’ll save $400 over 10 years! (TIP: For even more energy savings, wash your clothes in cold water.)
When you use ENERGY STAR products, you are also helping the environment because it fights climate change, reduces carbon emissions and other pollutants, and it preserves more of the Earth’s natural resources. You are saving money and helping the environment! It’s a Win-Win!
This Christmas, my husband, really wants a sound bar. When I purchase an ENERGY STAR sound bar from Best Buy it is up to 50 percent more efficient than conventional models. I know we already have an ENERGY STAR certified televisions, so we are really saving when we watch TV.
I think most families use their clothes dryer several times a week. I know with 3 kids we use it almost daily. If all clothes dryers sold in the US were ENERGY STAR certified, Americans could save $1.5 billion each year in utility costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to more than 2 million vehicles. To choose a dryer that saves energy and money while protecting the environment, look for the ENERGY STAR label.
If you are shopping for a new dryer, make sure you check to see if there is a rebate available. Your local utility company may give you a rebate when you buy smart home products and appliances.
When you do your holiday shopping this year make sure you visit Best Buy and look for ENERGY STAR products! In 2015, Best Buy sold enough ENERGY STAR® certified products to collectively save our customers $67,120,515 in annual energy costs. That’s enough energy to help power 70,538 households for a year.
I knew that ENERGY STAR products would save me money, but I didn’t realize how much! Have you purchased any ENERGY STAR® certified products?
