We just finished another season of baseball. My boy’s team had a great run. They ended the season in second place and lost in the semi-finals game. We love our time at the ball field. It was one of our first activities we plugged into when we moved into our community 2 years ago, and it has been an amazing place to make great friends for our whole family.
Since we spend so much time at the ball field – There are some things you gotta have in order to survive the heat! Last season we had two kids playing, so it made for some really long time at the baseball field. Now we keep a few things in the minivan that we know we will always need, and we have an idea in our head before we head out the door to help pass the time.
Things to keep in your car:
I don’t know about your field, but our bleachers are always full. We live in a small town, so everyone comes to watch the kids play. If you don’t get there early – you will end up standing the whole time. Between pregame and post game activities – that can be almost 3 hours. The #1 thing I keep in my van is a camping chair. They are easy to carry around, and they are a lot more comfortable than the bleachers.
If you don’t have one of those fancy camping chairs with a shade – make sure you also have some kind of umbrella. We have a large golf umbrella that I picked up at a hardware store for around $10. That sun is brutal, and the umbrella keeps us cooler!
I also like to keep a first aid kit in the car. It’s not just a good item to have for baseball. Band-aids come in handy all the time when you have kids!
Game Day Supplies:
Sunscreen is a must! My kids have such fair skin, and they are spending at least 2 hours in the bright, hot sun, usually at the hottest part of the day. It’s so important to make sure you apply sunscreen before you leave the house and just before the game starts. (You should also apply it on all the kids that are with you and not just the one playing!)
You need snacks! I do love some of the food that you can buy at the concession stand, but the prices are a little crazy. They charge $1.50 for a bottle of water! So we have a bag that has several snacks for the whole family. We add fruit snacks, peanuts, crackers, and more. Just don’t add anything that will melt!
The most important thing to bring with you to the ball field is lots of drinks! We have a cooler that we fill with water and BODYARMOR. Remember the water is $1.50 – well the sports beverages are $2.50, and they are not a brand I like to give my kids. We have been drinking BODYARMOR for a few years. We are so happy they have come out with so many different flavors. They have 9-great tasting flavors: fruit punch, orange mango, strawberry banana, tropical punch, blackout berry, mixed berry, grape, watermelon strawberry, and lemonade.
