The $600 Dead Bug

Sharing is caring!

Do you ever have something happen to you and just laugh about it? Well that happened to us over the past week and I think you will also think it is pretty hilarious.

On July 4th, we were drying some clothes while we went in and out of the house to watch fireworks from our back yard. When they were over we went upstairs to kiss our kids good night and we smelled something burning. It was only in the loft so we thought that it was either the dryer or maybe some of the smoke from fireworks that got into our house and we could smell it.

The next day I dried some clothes and I didn’t smell anything so I was happy because I thought that the dryer was fine.

That next night I was drying a load of clothes. My husband was upstairs in the loft and yelled to me to shut off the dryer because he smelled a burning smell again. I was pretty bummed because I didn’t really want to buy a new dryer.

We checked the all the tubes that carry out the heat for the dryer – no lint.

We checked from the outside – no lint.

We smelled inside the dryer – it didn’t smell like anything was burning.

The way the vent goes outside – it goes under our loft so we thought that had to be the reason we smelled something burning.

So on Sunday – I took advantage of the July 4th sales. I spent a few hours researching which dryer I wanted. It was on sale for $549. I went to Kroger and bought $550 in gift cards so I could get 4x’s the fuel rewards. We paid with our Delta American Express so we could get the sky miles. We shopped through FreeShipping.com so I would get 10% cash back and price protection.

Laundry was on hold in our house.

On Tuesday night was in the kitchen and I noticed some smoke coming off our halogen lamp. (You know the tall lamps that direct the light upwards and have a light bulb that gets so hot!) I told my husband and he said that it happens when a bug gets into the house and goes to the bright light.

I thought it was weird but didn’t think anything about it.

About 10 minutes later, my son was in the loft and he said it had that smell again – something smelled like it was burning. And the dryer wasn’t on!

So after I did all that research and bought the gift cards and purchased the dryer – we didn’t need a new dryer!

Bad new…I have $550 in Sears gift cards that I don’t need 🙂 Good New…I was able to buy Visa, Shell, Amazon, Outback, Chilis gift cards with my Sears Gift cards!

If you want to know….I loved the LG DLE3170W 7.4 cu. ft. Capacity Electric Dryer dryer I thought it was the best option. It was on sale for $549 when I was shopping and because I was a Shop Your Way rewards member, I had $60 in SYW reward points that they gifted to me so it made the dryer even cheaper. I even earned SYW rewards points on the purchase. Plus if you shop through TopCashBack you get 8% back on your purchase!

Do you have a silly story? Im happy it all worked out. I really didn’t lose any money in it because I saved about $50 on my gas purchases from Kroger even though I had to pay about $18 to activate the Visa Gift Cards.

Gosh! This is absolutely something that would happen to me!

I've gone 10 miles around something to get somewhere, only to find out there was a one minute route right in front of me.

You gotta laugh ?

Yes! Sometimes it just happens and there's nothing you can do about it :)
