Most of us are spending way more money on shopping than is necessary. From grocery shopping to updating your wardrobe, if you are not taking advantage of all of the deals that are available and searching at all relevant stores, it is likely that you are missing out on some money-saving opportunities. With that being said, let’s take a look at some great tips on how to become a savvy shopper.

Buy in bulk – One of the best ways to save money is to buy in bulk. This applies to everything from toilet roll to meat and fish. You can freeze the latter, so there is no reason not to take advantage of the bulk deals that are available.

Purchase off-season items – Another way to save a good chunk of money when shopping is to buy items that are not in season. For example, buy your summer clothing at the end of summer.

Sign up for your favourite stores’ newsletters – A lot of people don’t sign up for newsletters because they worry that they are going to be bombarded with emails from the companies in question. While this is true to an extent, this is often how you get the best deals, and so it is worth signing up to the email lists of stores you shop at frequently.

Find voucher codes – Before making a purchase, do a quick search online to see whether there are any voucher codes available for you to use to secure a discount.

Make the most of mobile apps – Nowadays, there are many mobile apps available that are dedicated to helping consumers make savings. This includes the likes of DealDash, which is an auction app that provides users with discounts of up to 90 per cent on brand new kitchen appliances, electronics, and such like. You can also find apps specifically for clothing, grocery shopping, and other types of goods and services. This is a great way to save a considerable amount of money irrespective of the type of shopping you are doing.

Open a new bank account – Another way to save yourself a bit of money when doing your next shopping trip is by opening a new bank account. A lot of banks will give you a cash sum if you decide to open up a bank with them.

Buy discounted gift cards – Last but not least, there are a lot of websites that sell gift cars for less than their face value. If you know you need to purchase something from a specific store, it is a good idea to search for a discounted gift card first.

If you follow the tips that have been mentioned above, you will be able to save yourself a considerable amount of money when shopping. You can set the money aside and put it towards that dream vacation you have been wanting to book, or why not use it to finally build up a good emergency fund?
