We have officially started the busiest time of the year! Getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas is a stressful time of year but then we add all the end-of-school activities, holiday parties, and more!

Getting a good night’s sleep will help you to have the energy to get through all these events and set you up for a successful new year!

Here are a few tips that can help you sleep better every night!

Stay on a Schedule

As a mom of 3 – I know that sometimes the only time I have alone in a quiet house is late at night after all the kids go to bed. And sometimes I tend to enjoy that time a little too long.

But the truth is – if I just went to bed at the same time – I sleep better and I have a much better day.

Set up a schedule so that you are getting between 7-8 hours per night and stick to it!

Watch What You Drink and Eat In The Evening

There are so many delicious appetizers, meals, and desserts to enjoy during the holidays! Make sure you don’t overeat in the evening. This can cause heartburn and just make you uncomfortable when you are trying to sleep.

Also, limit the amount of alcohol and caffeine you consume close to bedtime. This can disrupt your natural sleep phases.

Reduce Your Exposure To Blue Light

Blue light is emitted from the devices we use all day – like laptops and phones. This light can mess with your circadian rhythm and cause you to mess up your sleep pattern. If possible, don’t use your devices nor watch TV about an hour before bed.

Use this time to read a book or listen to your favorite podcast. You could also purchase blue-light-blocking glasses to help reduce the amount you are exposed to.

Clear Your Mind

It can be hard to turn off your brain at night so you can fall asleep quickly. After you log out of your devices for the night take a nice warm bath. I love to add some Epsom Salts to my bath.

When you walk into your bedroom – your body should know it’s time to sleep. So keep out distractions like a messy desk or a TV.

Keep your room dark! Get blackout curtains to keep out the light and this should also help to keep your room cool if you keep them closed when the sun is shining right into your room.

Adjust the thermostat so it’s a little cooler at night when you sleep.
