I love to make cut out cookies with my kids – but I have never found a good recipe…until now! After searching many websites I found a basic cookie dough recipe but it was too much cookie dough for me, so I cut it in half. It still made a ton of cookies! Here’s the scaled down version I used.
Basic Cookie Recipe
- 1-1/4 cups butter, softened (2 – 1/2 sticks)
- 1 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/8 cup milk (2 TBSP)
- 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the egg, milk and vanilla; mix well. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture, beating just until mixed
- Divide into 2 balls and wrap in plastic wrap for at least 2 hours. (I only had wax paper and it worked too.)
- When you are ready to use it, flour your work space and the rolling pin. Roll out dough to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut into shapes. .
- Bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Place on a wire rack to cool. Frost plain cookies or sprinkle with colored sugar.
We sprinkled some of the cookies with sprinkles before we baked them.
I adapted this recipe from a Taste Of Home recipe.
