Sandwich Kabobs For A Picnic

Thank you Tampico Beverages for sponsoring this conversation.

I thought I liked winter – but I had never experienced a real winter because I lived in Florida. Now that I look back – winter was kind of a joke. You would wear a jacket in the morning but by the afternoon, you were ready for shorts again.

So after several weeks of cold weather, lots of clouds, and snow, last Saturday was beautiful. The temperature got up to 75 degrees. We actually broke a record that was set 125 years ago. It was perfect – lots of sun and no snow!

My plan was to spend as much time outside and enjoy the sneak peek of Spring. After playing outside with the kids in our neighborhood, we invited them over for a picnic. I love the colors of Spring and made our picnic as cheery as possible!

I am convinced that kids will eat anything on a stick – it’s just more fun that way. We made some fruit kabobs. These are easy to put together. You just need kabob sticks and your favorite fruits. For our fruit kabobs we used strawberries, bananas, watermelon, and grapes. I think pineapple would also taste great.

I think I am going to start making sandwich kabobs for school lunches. It’s more fun than a regular sandwich!

Sandwich Kabobs:

  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 1 pound of your favorite lunch meat (we used turkey)
  • 1/2 pound of your favorite cheese (we used Colby Jack)
  • lettuce
  • cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • flower cut out
  • kabob sticks

Instructions:

Get out a really big cutting board and lay out a few pieces of bread. I used 1 piece of bread for each kabob. Cut off the crusts. You can either use a cookie cutter to make it into a shape or just cut the bread into 4 squares.

Cut the turkey, cheese, and lettuce into pieces that are big enough to thread over the sticks. (I also used the cookie cutter for the cheese.)

Assemble your kabob – bread, turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and repeat. Each kabob stick should have 3-4 sets of ingredients. You want to start and end the kabob with bread.

Now that you have the food ready, you need to add some color with your beverages. My kids love Tampico Punch so we picked up some Tampico Fruit Punch and Tampico Coconut Pineapple Punch. Between the fruit kabobs and the Tampico punch, it is a great way to Color Your World on a boring winter day.

The kids felt so special because we served their punch in milk bottles with colorful straws.

If it is still too cold to have an outdoor picnic you can always have an indoor picnic with all these bright colors to add some cheer to your day. To make it easier I made you a printable shopping list.Shopping list - Enjoy A Spring Picnic With Tampico Punch #springintotampico

I love these shared moments with my kids! They grow up too fast – so love to plan to do fun things with them as often as I can!

We had so much fun making these kabobs that I really think that it would be a great idea to serve at a birthday party or any get-together. It’s the perfect finger food and it’s really pretty!

I love taking fruit and homemade salads and sandwiches to picnics. We don't have many picnics anymore but we used to all the time, they were my favorites!

We always have picnics but we haven’t tried Tampico punch. It’s great to having a better weather again.
