Saving Money On Kid’s Clothes

I have 3 kids and I know that clothes and shoes can be very expensive. I think that being prepared will help you save a lot of money when trying to keep your kids well dressed. Here are my tips for spending less but also getting good quality clothing for you kids. They grow so fast that you don’t want to spend too much money on clothes they will only use for a few months!

*Ask around – I have 2 boys and a girl. When I was pregnant with my daughter I did not have anything for a girl, so I asked on Facebook if anyone had any girl clothes they no longer needed, I was happy to take them. One of my friends responded and she gave me 4 huge garbage bags and 2 boxes of clothes for my daughter. I did not have to buy her anything from birth to 2 years old! She was happy to clean out her closet and I was happy to get lots of free baby clothes!

*Buy Second Hand – Kid’s consignment shops are a great place to find high quality, gently used clothes at a fraction of the price. Make sure you see if you local store has an email newsletter or a Facebook page so you can be informed of the latest deals. Church yard sales are also a great place to find great deals on kids clothes. I also like to shop at seasonal consignment sales. They are usually twice a year at large convention centers. They sell everything you need for your kids. This website can help you find a sale in your area. Also check out Ebay and ThredUp. (Tip – You can get a box of nice gently used clothes at ThredUp for $19.95, but there are many daily deal sites that offer your fist box for $10. I have received a lot of great clothes for my kids by shopping at ThredUp. ) Today at Eversave you can get $20 worth of stuff from ThredUp for $10 – just $8 for new members!)

*Clearance Racks – I am from Florida so when the Summer and Spring clothes go on clearance I can find lots of great deals on clothes my kids can use almost year round. When winter stuff goes on clearance I try to buy a few things a size or two bigger that they will use for the few days a year it’s cold or if we take a trip. I hate getting stuck buying stuff they need when they need it because you pay a lot more! Watch the sales online. Most of the time they are already marked down and they have a discount code for additional savings and free shipping! I just got a jacket for my daughter for next winter that was $62 and I paid $11.

Set yourself a budget every month so that if you see a great deal on something you child will need, you have the freedom to buy it. In the long run it will save you money.

Planning ahead and knowing what you need are the keys to saving money. It also helps me save time because I know there’s a winter coat for my daughter and I don’t have to spend time looking for the best deal next winter.

What are your tips for saving money on kids clothing? I would love to hear your ideas.
