Citronella Grass

Citronella Grass has a very distinct smell and is a common ingredient in mosquito repellants. Plant it in pots because it will not live in the winter and it like full sun.  The Citronella winterianus or Cymbopogon nardus are the best varieties.

Lavender

Lavender is a great option to help repel Mosquitos. It has been said that lavender oil deters the mosquito’s ability to smell! Once established, you should have no issues keeping this plant alive. It just needs full sun and good drainage. It prefers warmer climates, but it can live in most climates.

Marigolds

You can go wrong with Marigolds. Even those with a black thumb will not have issues keeping these flowers alive.  The smell deters mosquitoes. Add them near your patio or entrance to your home to keep bugs out. They are also a great addition to your vegetable garden.

Besides having some of these plans make sure you prevent water from becoming stagnant.  Mosquitoes can lay many eggs – even in a small area of standing water.

These are just a few plans that you can keep in your yard to help naturally repel mosquitos. Do you have any other plants that you keep in your yard to help with mosquitos?
