Times have got scarier, burglaries and robberies are common place crimes occurring in daylight. When it comes to the safety of your family and your home, it is better not to take a chance. Especially when a small investment in security can guarantee you peace of mind and help save a lot of trouble in the future.

Here are some things you would want to do and add to your home to make your home truly safe for you and your family.

  • Secure Locks and Bolts: Do not try to play it cheap when it comes to security. A few dollars less could maybe mean you are robbed of thousands in the eventuality of a burglary! So invest in high quality locks and bolts for your home.
  • Exterior Doors: Get your home fitted with double doors so that you have multiple layers of protection. It is difficult to penetrate multiple doorways with ease.
  • Proper Lighting:When the doorways are well lit, it is more than enough to keep away daring burglaries and robberies, though it is not deterrent enough.
  • Windows: Windows should be strategically placed such that you can see what is going on out there in your yard and surroundings. Make sure to have grills fitted onto your window frames so that even in the contingency of the glass being cut away or shattered, nothing inside is accessible.
  • Keep in touch with neighbors: Nothing substitutes being on good terms with your neighbors to learn of the latest in the neighborhood.
  • Security Cameras: Security cameras sound pretty high end when it comes to the issue of securing your home, but they are quickly becoming a common place fixture as their affordability increases. The very presence of a camera can dissuade most attempts. Look for super miniature but highly efficient spy security cameras that function in both daytime and nighttime.
If they are to be put to outdoor use, check different brands and chose one that is known to be resistant to extreme weather conditions. Since these cameras serve to alert you about suspicious activity when you use the playback facility to do a check, clarity and 360 degree vision are criteria that are important.
  • Invest in a burglar alarm: Burglar alarms have been around for long but their relevance only increase in times such as these. Burglar alarms help in not only detecting when someone enters or exits your home but can also be a useful aid in setting off a call for help. Check extensively with various brands before zeroing down on one and learn to use it properly so that you do not end up setting off too many “false alarms.”
  • Invest in a safe: Very valuable items in a house such as money, heirloom jewels etc are best stored in a safe if you insist on having them at your home and not in a bank locker, which would be ideal.
  • Peephole at the front door: Knowing for whom you are opening the door is of paramount importance. While this is an almost taken for granted feature in most homes, it is worthwhile to ensure that it is placed on the front door. Insist that the person reveals their identity before letting anyone in.
  • Repair: Never let your guard down on things that need repairs in your home, such as broken locks and doors. Such fixtures cost little to mend but you could end up losing too much if they are left unattended.Nothing is finally a substitute for care and vigilance, but small investments do go a long way in averting a disaster and saving money.
