Summertime is a busy time in our family for birthdays. Several nieces and nephews and 2 of my kids have summer birthdays. It can get expensive when I have so many gifts to buy in such a short period.
I try to do things all year to save money on birthday presents for kids and adults. I spend so much more money when I have to run out to the store the day before the party and have to pick up a present.
Here are 3 ways I save money on birthday presents.
Plan ahead – My nieces and nephew all love the same toys. I watch the sales, the clearance aisles, and clip coupons so I can create a little stock pile of gifts. For example – a few weeks ago there was a coupon for board games and they were on sale at Walmart. I paid just a few bucks for a really fun game I know they will love even though the birthday isn’t for a few weeks.
Creating a gift stockpile works for all ages. I usually grab picture frames, candles, and other generic gift items when they are on clearance just in case I get invited to birthday parties. This is a great way to save time and money on gifts.
Re-use gift bags – I never throw away gift bags or tissue paper when we receive them. I gently fold up the paper and put it back into the gift bag. I store them under my bed and I always have a gift bag available. I have even been able to use some of the bags for baby shower gifts. This way you can spend the money on the gift and not on the gift bag.
Purchase .47 cent Hallmark Cards Only At Walmart – In the past I have avoided giving cards. They can be so expensive. I was in Walmart picking out a few birthday cards and I actually had a lady ask me if there were any cheaper cards – she didn’t want to spend $5.97 on a card. I told her that there were cards as low as .47 cents – so she came over and bought a few cards.
When your family is as big as mine, you could spend a fortune on cards. That is why a few times a year I will head over to Walmart and pick up a few cards starting at just .47 cents.
In just a few weeks I have 4 birthdays! Today I picked up enough cards to last me until September and I even bought a card for my sister that is expecting a baby. You can find a card for any occasion!
These are a few easy ways you can give a great gift and card and not spend a fortune! How do you save money on birthday presents?

These are wonderful tips. I always reuse gift bags and boxes. Saves you from buying a new one every time there is a birthday.

I definitely reuse gift bags. If somebody wrote something on the tag, I just pull it off and use the bag anyway :)

I always reuse gift bags when I can. There's no sense in only using them once!

Stockpiling and also making gift baskets save me money. I also love giving homemade gifts.
