When you are ready for a hearty soup you need to try Hurst beans slow cooker recipe! It’s an easy recipe with just minutes of prep time with so much flavor. I love a good slow cooker meal!
I never noticed how many Hurst’s beans options there were! I have seen so many great recipes made with dried beans but they were usually made with other dry beans like large lima beans, green split beans, white kidney beans, pinto beans, etc.
I was so excited to see that the bag of 15 bean soup mix included a delicious cajun seasoning packet to make a slow cooker cajun soup!
Tips to make this bean soup recipe
- If you can’t find seasoning blend at your grocery stores, dice up 1 green pepper, 1 small onion, and 1/2 cup of celery.
- I prefer to use chicken bouillon instead of keeping chicken broth in my house. If you have chicken stock you can use 4 cups of water and 4 cups of chicken stock. You want a total of 8 cups of liquid.
- The longer you cook it – the more flavors will develop over time.
- This is a no soak recipe but if you soak the beans reduce the water by 1 cup.
- Beans take a long time to cook so make sure you don’t remove the lid of the slow cooker or it will add to the cooking time!
Substitutions for Hurst Beans Slow Cooker Recipe:
- Switch out the sausage for leftover hambone. Use a ham bone to add extra flavor.
- Switch out vegetable broth for chicken broth.
