Why Choose Eggless Sugar Cookies?

For anyone dealing with egg allergies, finding the best option for cookie recipes is essential. Eggs act as a binding agent in traditional recipes, but with a few tweaks, you can achieve egg-free sugar cookies that taste just as good as regular sugar cookies. Plus, going egg-free means you can safely taste the raw cookie dough without worry.

This eggless sugar cookies recipe is versatile, accommodating not just egg allergies but also dietary preferences like vegan and gluten-free options.

Sugar Cookie Recipe Without Eggs

Ingredients for Eggless Sugar Cookies

To create the best sugar cookies, you need the following:

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, room temperature (2 sticks)
  • 2 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated
  • 3/4  cup red cinnamon hearts – crushed

Easy sugar cookies – Baking Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and line your baking sheets with parchment paper

Place cinnamon hearts into a zipped bag and use a meat tenderizer to crush hearts. ( Or anything you have that you can use to do this.)

In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar with a hand mixer and beat until mixed well

Add flour and mix until the dough pulls together and is smooth

Roll into 1-inch balls

Place balls on a cookie sheet and press down on top of each ball with the bottom of a glass ( I would rub the bottom of the glass in flour prior to pressing down to avoid the dough from sticking)

Use a fork and gently press down on each cookie

Sprinkle sugar on the top of each cookie and add one cinnamon heart in the middle

Bake and Cool

  1. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. For butter cookies with lower melting points, reduce the baking time slightly.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the baked cookies cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Ensure cookies are in a single layer to avoid sticking. (For best results, let cool before removing from the baking sheet)

Storage Tips

To maintain the freshness of your eggless cookies, follow these tips:

  1. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
  2. Freeze dough balls wrapped in cling wrap for up to 3 months. Thaw before baking.
  3. Stack baked cookies with parchment between each layer in the freezer to avoid sticking.

Common Questions About Eggless Sugar Cookies

Can I Make These Vegan?

I have never tried these substitutions but you could substitute the unsalted butter with Earth Balance vegan buttery sticks. This will give you vegan sugar cookies that are just as delightful.

What About Gluten-Free Options?

I have not tried to make these cookies gluten free but if you normally use a gluten-free flour blend, this would be the best way to make these cookies suitable for gluten-free diets. Sometimes you need to add a teaspoon of xanthan gum for structure.

How Can I Make Them Softer or Crunchier?

For softer cookies, reduce the baking time slightly. For crunchy sugar cookies, extend the baking time by 1-2 minutes and ensure they cool completely before storing.

The Versatility of This Recipe

This eggless recipe is more than just Valentine’s Day. You can easily adapt these drop cookies with sprinkles, vanilla extract, almond extract, or chocolate chips. With the addition of flavors like lemon zest, the possibilities are endless. It’s the perfect sugar cookie base for every occasion.
