We are a family of 5, and it amazes me how many loads of laundry we do every week. It got worse when we moved from Florida to Kentucky because we started to layer our clothes. I got to a point where I was drowning in dirty clothes. As I sat inside the mountain of clothes I was about to fold, I had thought to myself that there had to be an easier and more efficient way to do this.

So out of the desire to not have to spend hours on Sundays doing laundry, I came up with these laundry hacks to make laundry much easier.

5 Laundry Hacks

Get a delicates bag for socks. I hate socks. There is always a lone sock and then it becomes a pile of lone socks. I hate socks so much I usually don’t wear them, but there are four other people in my house that wear socks every day – that’s 28 pairs of socks that I wash every week!

I have two hooks in my laundry room, and each one has a zipper bag that is for delicates but instead, I use them for socks. There is 1 for girl socks and 1 for boy socks. When my kids get home from school, they put their shoes in the closet and the socks in the laundry room. When the bags start to get full, I throw the whole bag in the washer and dryer, and they always match. No extra socks and no extra sorting the boy and girl socks.

Get some hangers to have in the laundry room. I also don’t like to iron so as soon as my husband’s shirts come out of the dryer I put them on a hanger. They stay wrinkle free, and I can just grab them to put in his closet. It’s also nice to have for some of the items I can’t put in the dryer.

Get a dry erase marker to keep in your laundry room.  I have several items in my wardrobe that I don’t like to put in the dryer. Once I throw all the laundry into the machine, I tend to forget what is in there. This is where the dry erase marker comes in handy…I just jot down what items need special care, and I never forget. It’s easy to wipe away.

Wash, dry, fold, and put away in the same day. My biggest problem would be that I would let the laundry pile up. I would get overwhelmed and keep putting it off. Now when the washing machine is full, I wash the load. I don’t separate the lights and darks, and I have never had a problem. When it’s done, I throw it in the dryer and then fold them right there in the laundry room.

Get clothes baskets for kids. I have decided I don’t have to do it all. I have some canvas basket I keep in the laundry room for the kids. I separate their clothes and then they bring it to their room and put the clothes away. Once the clothes are put away, they bring the basket back to the laundry room.

This has been a really nice system in our house. The laundry doesn’t pile up and the kids can always find their clothes. Plus the clothes don’t get wrinkled from sitting in a basket for days.

Now that you have a few tips to help make laundry easier you can save money when you shop at Family Dollar Stores®. I saved $2.00 off Tide PODS and .50 cents off Downy fabric softener. Plus you can find many other coupons to help you save money on items you need.

Gotta do a bag for socks or else the washer and dryer strategically eat them! LOL

Great ideas! I never run out of hangers in the laundry room because as soon as I take something off the hanger in the closet to wear I toss the hanger down the side of the dirty clothes basket. Saves me having to hunt for them later-the hangers go down with the dirty laundry!

Great tips! I use different colored hangers for each member of the family. So I always know what goes where when I'm putting clothes away - it's easy to sort!
