Tips To Squeeze More Savings Into Your Budget

We are about to make a major purchase. After living overseas for many years, we are living in the US again. We had rented a house for many years because it was the only option. So now we are trying to save every penny to help buy our own home.

There are many little things that we can do now so that we can save more each month. We want to make changes to our budget now so that we can be able to put a down payment on a new home and be able to afford some new furniture.

The first tip I have is to get control of my grocery budget. My kids eat all the time. I am going to make a meal plan and stick to it. I want to be able to make almost all the meals we eat at home so that I am not tempted to eat out. I will make a plan, find coupons, and stick to it.

Shop around for auto and homeowners’ insurance. Check around to see if you can get additional discounts. My dad is a Veteran, so we are able to get a nice discount on our car insurance. Sometimes you can get an extra discount if you have your auto and home insurance from the same company. One phone call could save you lots of money.

One of the biggest ways I can save money is with Walmart Family Mobile service. I have done my research and I don’t want to be stuck in a 2 year contract at a very high monthly price. I use a lot of data so I need a plan with unlimited data. Some plans were going to cost us over $100 per month for just 2 phone lines.

With the Walmart Family Mobile service, the service is just $29.88/month (for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 500MB of 4G LTE data. You can add additional lines for jut $24.88 per month. That’s about $55 per month for 2 cell phone lines – almost half as much as other services. The plan includes up to 500MB of 4G LTE data. (You will also need to purchase the $25.00 starter kit if you are not already using Walmart Family Mobile.) This is a huge savings each month!

While I was at Walmart I purchased an Alcatel Fierce 2. It was just $119 and it has all the features I need. I am connected all day – so I need a smart phone. I can use apps that will save me money when I am grocery shopping. I can even use apps that pay me cash back when shopping.  I usually forget my shopping list so I have started to email it to me. I can even search for a recipe while I am at the store. That way I don’t have to make extra trips to the store because I forgot to buy something.

Be diligent about saving! Make sure you look over your budget each month and figure out how much you should have added to your savings account. If I move my money from my checking account to my savings account, I don’t realize I have it so I don’t spend it.

Just make a few changes each month and it can lead to big savings!
