School Pick Up Line Survival Kit

I spend hours a week sitting in line in my car waiting to pick up my kids at school each week. It can get very boring. Plus it’s right around 2pm when I’m getting hungry again. Now that I have been doing this for a few weeks, I have a kit that I keep with me to satisfy my hunger and help pass the time.

My kids get out of school around 2:20pm. If I am not already in line by about 1:55pm there are at least 50 cars in from of me. Twenty Five minutes is a long time to sit in your car. So here are some things I keep with me in my van.

Magazines – I get several magazine subscriptions every month. They usually have great articles that I can read to pass the time. Some even have great recipes I can use for dinners. I especially love the magazines right now because they all have really great ideas for Halloween!

Notepad and Pen – For some reason, I seem to forget things if I don’t write them down. So as I am looking through my magazines, I can make a grocery list of items I need to make some of the recipes. Or I use it to make my meal plan for the week.

Smart Phone – If I am out of magazines, I will check my email and catch up with my friends and family on Facebook. Or I use my Kindle app to read a book.

Water Bottle – You gotta stay hydrated! But don’t drink too much because it’s hard to jump out of your car and use the bathroom while waiting in the car pool lane.

Nail File – I can never find this when I need it! I keep it in my car because I know I will also have time to make my nails look pretty.

Snacks – I usually eat lunch around 11am, so by the time it’s 2pm I get hungry. I don’t want to be cranky when my kids get in the car, so some days I just sit in my quite car and enjoy a SNICKERS® bar. The roasted peanuts, nougat, caramel and milk chocolate really satisfy my hunger. I make sure whenever I’m checking out at Walmart to throw a few SNICKERS® bars with my stuff.

SNICKERS® has always been my go to snack when I am hungry. I love the commercials that ask “Who are you when you are hungry?” It’s true – when we are hungry it can effect our mood. I want to be happy when my kids get in the car.
