How To Save Money On A Moving Truck

How To Save Money On A Moving Truck

We are about 30 days away from our closing date. There are many things I need to do but most importantly I need to reserve a moving truck. After a few quick searches on Penske, UHaul, and Budget Truck Rentals, I notice the prices are a little different.

My preferred option is Penske. We used them earlier this year when we moved from Florida to Kentucky. The truck was really nice and the office was about a mile from our house. First I checked RetailMeNot to see if there are any coupon codes for Penske. There were a few, but they always showed up as AAA discount.  I don’t have AAA and I do not want to lose my discount whenI fail to show them a card when I pick up my truck. So that didn’t work.

Next I went to Facebook and I asked them if there were any discounts. They told me that there were discounts for military personal and college students. I messaged them my phone number and they called me.

It was just a 5 minute call and they were able to get me a 2 day rental for a 16 foot truck for about $85 with tax. I will also need to pay .59 cents per mile but it is a short move and it should only cost about $30 more for mileage. I am saving at least $25 and I will not have to drive as many miles because the office is so close to my home.

So what did I learn? Do a quick online search of the truck rental offices near you. Then call the one you prefer to rent from and let them know about the better offers you found online. Usually they are going to match or beat that estimate because they want your business!

Make sure you ask about discounts that include AAA, College student, AARP, Warehouse memberships, etc. Every little bit helps!

Now we need to find us some able bodies that want to help us load and unload the truck!
