Chinese Chicken Recipe – Better Than Takeout

This Chinese Chicken Recipe is better and faster than takeout! You can get it on the table fast; everyone will love it!

When it comes to satisfying your cravings for Asian cuisine, Chinese chicken dishes are hard to beat. As you delve into the world of Chinese chicken recipes, you’ll discover an array of tempting dishes that will have you reaching for your chopsticks. These recipes are flavorful, diverse, and often easy to prepare, making them an excellent choice for a weeknight meal or even a special occasion.

From the ever-popular Kung Pao Chicken to the perfect sweetness of Sesame Chicken Stir-Fry, there’s a Chinese chicken dish for every palate. Whether you prefer your chicken dishes spicy, savory, sweet, or a blend of all three, you’re bound to find something to love in the rich world of Chinese flavors.

As you explore these recipes, don’t forget to take advantage of the fresh vegetables and fragrant herbs that often accompany Chinese dishes. Staples like green bell peppers, mushrooms, green onions, fresh ginger, sesame seeds, and Chinese cabbage not only add bright and delicious flavors but also help create a well-rounded and nourishing meal in your kitchen.

Chinese food is so delicious. I love eating at Chinese restaurants. I always have things like oyster sauce and hoisin sauce to add different flavors to our meals.

Tips to make this easy dish!

  • Oil – If you have sesame oil – add half of that and half vegetable oil. It will give the dish a little more flavor.
  • You can also add more flavor by substituting the water with chicken broth.
  • My favorite white rice is jasmine rice – but if you only have minute rice you can use that too!
  • Replace the apple cider vinegar for rice vinegar.
  • If you want a little extra heat, top with some chili peppers.

I really like to use basic ingredients you already have in your house. But there are some things you can use if you have them already to enhance the flavors. My kids love chicken chow mein, but my favorite is sticky orange chicken. And you always need some egg rolls with your meal.

Chinese food is something my whole family loves! This is a great recipe if you are short on time and need to get dinner on the table! The cooking process is fast and it has a lot of flavor!

Chinese Chicken Recipe – Better Than Takeout

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast (or chicken thighs if you prefer dark meat)
  • oil (to coat the pan)
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 cup water or chicken stock
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons corn starch

Instructions:

  1. Cut your chicken into small 1-2 inch pieces.
  2. Heat up a large skillet over medium-high heat. Put a little bit of oil in your hot pan to prevent sticking.
  3. Add your chicken pieces to the hot oil and let them cook for about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the chicken is cooking, mix the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl to make the sauce. Whisk it all together until the cornstarch is dissolved and all ingredients are well combined and set aside.
  5. Drain any excess oil or liquid that has accumulated in the pan. This will help the edges get golden brown.
  6. Pour the sauce over the cooked chicken and reduce the heat to a low simmer.
  7. Cover the pan with the lid at an angle to allow some of the steam to escape.
  8. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring a few times during the cooking period.

Serve over white or brown rice and enjoy! You can also make your favorite broccoli recipe to go with this meal.

Just so you know – this isn’t very sweet. It’s like a mix between Bourbon Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken.
