Four Ways To Shop Smarter

When it comes to shopping, it can be both a fun and maddening experience. As well as buying the things that we need, we will also buy some things that we just want. But the trouble comes when we are buying things that we neither need or want, and we’re not even too sure why we even bought it. But if you are trying to be more financially savvy, then this isn’t the kind of shopping that you want to do. So here some tips for when it comes to shopping so that you can be more mindful and can make save more money.

Spot the Retail Tricks

In order to know the real value of the things that you’re buying, you need to be able to spot the tricks that retailers use. Those rings or watches at the jewelers are around bright lights and glass to make them look more sparkly or shiny than they really are. Spas and hotels are scented in a certain way or play specific music in order for us to part with our cash. Stores will use our senses as a way for us to spend money. So knowing the tricks can help you to choose more wisely. Buy the ring because it looks the best and you want it, not simply because it looks sparkly (it will look duller as soon as you leave the store).

What Kind of Shopper Are You

Knowing what kind of shopper you are can plan a big role in the kind of shopping that you do. If you are quite methodical and aren’t tempted easily, then it might make more sense to browse in physical stores to look for what you want. But if you are an impulse buyer and just buy something because you like it, not because you need it, then shopping online might be a better option for you. When you know what kind of shopper you are, you can do something about it to improve it.

Use Credit Cards To Your Advantage

If you are going to use credit cards, then you need to make sure that you are using them wisely and using them to your advantage. If you have credit cards that offer an interest-free period, for example, then it could be worth using those in stores (as long as you are only spending within your budget). You could even look for a store card that offers a certain time period, interest-free. When you’re using them wisely, then they can offer benefits that cash doesn’t.

Stock Up on Memories and Experiences

When you go on vacation, for example, how many of us will naturally get some souvenirs so that they will remind us of the vacation? But really, how many of these ‘souvenirs’ are actually going to last and not get thrown out when we move house? So instead of looking for the gift shop, make sure that you’re making memories or spending money on experiences, rather than just stuff.
