This post, Protect Your Kids From Too Much Screen Time, contains affiliate link. All opinions are my own.
I have 3 kids and I work from home. So I will be the first to admit that my kids spend too much time on their devices. They have a laptop and an Xbox and my older son also has a phone. As a parent, I often catch myself skimming my apps on my phone when I should really be engaged in family time.
Screen time has it’s pros and cons so It’s important to help them make wise choices when they are on their devices. We all know that we should set limiting…but do we? Do our kids come straight home and ask to play electronics? Or do they do home work, grab a snack, or do their chores? My kids usually want to get on their devices.
How can we help train them to not spend so much time online? How can we protect our kids from living in a digital world when there’s so much to do and see outside their devices?
I have really been thinking a lot about this. I want to set limits on my kids screen time. I want them to know that they should take a break. There are a few options out there but I think that unGlue is the best option for our family. It’s also very user friendly.
Here’s how unGlue Works:
Download the unGlue app. This is a free app that lets you monitor how much time your kids spend on their devices. You can track it on their phones and tablets.
Once you download the app you will get a 14 day free trial. This premium version allows you to set time limits on your kids online usage. What I really like about unGlue is that I can limit the amount of time spent on YouTube or playing on apps but my kids will still be able to access the internet to do homework and research. My oldest loves to take Udemy classes and right now he is learning Java – so it is fine with me that he works on this class.
Download unGlue and Use code SavingYouDinero10Off to save 10%
Once you have the app you can set daily limits on the apps they use and they can even earn more time if they do chores or spend time reading.
You can even set limits on their time on gaming devices and laptops with a “puck” you can order. just plug it in and set up the limits for the devices.
The cost is $9.99 a month or $83.99 annually but make sure you use code SavingYouDinero10Off to save 10%! Unlike other devices this app works even when the kids are away from your home internet.
To start using unGlue, simply download the unGlue app to your smartphone. The app will guide you in setting up your kids’ mobile devices. If you want to connect other home devices, the app will guide you through installing the unGlue Home Monitor onto a single desktop computer in your home. As long as it stays on, you can monitor your kids’ online activity 24/7.
One of my favorite features is to pause the internet! So many times I have told my kids to get off their devices. They respond “In a Minute”. That minute turns into a lot more. With the swipe of the button I can pause their internet and have them be more obedient.
Kids are kids – they do not know how to control themselves online – many adults dont! I love that unGlue is going to help us take control of screen time in our house. I want my kids to know there is a time and a place for everything and I think with a little help from unGlue we will win the battle against screen time!! I may even set some limits for me and my husband to help establish a more routine family time in our house.
Download the free unGlue app and just monitor your kids’ screen time – you may be a little surprised how long they spend online! Help them get unglued!
