How to Stay Entertained when On a Long Trip

Some people find long journeys to be therapeutic, whereas others find it can be claustrophobic. If you’re the type of person who finds it to be boring then believe it or not, it doesn’t have to be this way. Long journeys give you the best opportunity to get stuck into a time-consuming hobby or they can give you the chance to delve into something that you wouldn’t normally have the time for.

Listen to Some Music

Listening to music is one of the best ways for you to make your travel experience that bit better. Whether you use Apple Music or Spotify, you need to make sure that you explore your options, especially when you have a lot of time to play with. If you are worried about not being able to access the music you want when you are on the go because you don’t have an internet connection, you don’t have to worry about anything.

You may find that a lot of the time, you can download the tracks you need. When you do this, you will soon find that you can get the tracks you love sent right to your phone, and you can listen to them without having to use your mobile data.

Read

Reading is, believe it or not, another great way for you to pass the time. Reading is way more satisfying when you can get engrossed in a long book, and a long journey will give you the best opportunity to do that. Reading is also now easier than ever. The main reason for this is because you can download books to your eReader. Although you can read books on your phone, this can be difficult if you have a very small screen.

You may also find that your phone battery is often drained, which can present issues. If you want to do something about this then it could be worth investing in an eReader. The best thing about having something like this to hand is that you can download hundreds, if not thousands of books at any given moment. On top of this, you can feel assured knowing your battery is going to last for hours, keeping your phone free for anything essential.

Listen to An Audiobook

Another thing you may want to do is listen to an audiobook. For those who feel a little queasy about reading when in transit, this is the ideal solution. Amazon has an app for this too, which you can download. The great thing about Audible is that you can access whatever audiobooks you need with ease and that you can also pay for ones that you may be interested in.

If you don’t see any you like, you can find audiobooks on sites like YouTube, although you may find it difficult to download them to your phone. If you listen to audiobooks when traveling, then it’s a good idea to get a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones. When you have something like this, you can feel assured knowing that you can listen to every word without being distracted by the noise of other people, the train, or the airplane. This applies to music, too, so be sure to keep that in mind.

Watch a Movie

Another thing you can try and do is watch a movie. If you have access to a tablet or a laptop on your trip, this is a great way to pass the time. You can load up your device with movies, and when you do, you will have a lot of choices. If you want to download movies then Netflix gives you the option to do this. When you download movies, you can then enable offline watching, which is a fantastic way for you to watch whatever you need with ease.

Of course, if you find it hard to get motivated with putting on a movie then another thing you could try is watching a season. The great thing about seasons is that you can make the flight feel faster as you will be passing it, 20 minutes at a time. This is the best option for those who have a shorter attention span and it can also help you to stop getting as bored. One thing you need to take note of is that if you get travel sick when watching movies or TV shows, then this can make it harder for you to feel better about your trip. Breaking your screen time up into small chunks can help, but failing this, you may need to explore other avenues.

Play Games

Another thing you can try and do is play games. The great thing about playing games on the go is that you can pass hours with ease. If you find it hard to play games that have a lot of animation, especially when traveling then there are various other options out there. Mahjong is a great option, and it’s very therapeutic as well. If you struggle quite a lot with travel nerves then this is a great way for you to ease them.

You can also put it down and pick right up from where you left off, which is ideal when you are changing flights. With games like this, you’ll also find that they don’t take up a lot of data either, so be sure to keep an eye out for them. If you want, you can also try games like chess, which can be a very good way for you to not only pass the time but pick up some new skills. You can play with other people online a lot of the time too, so if you are traveling solo, be sure to keep this in mind as it is a good way for you to connect.

Sleep

Quite possibly one of the best ways for you to pass the time when traveling would be to sleep. The great thing about sleeping on a plane or train is that it helps you block out everything around you and that you can also reset your body clock, which is especially useful if you are traveling to a new time zone. If you don’t feel as though you’re able to sleep on the go then be sure to take a travel pillow with you, as this is a great way for you to switch off and get comfortable.

Meditate

If you find travel to be stressful then why not turn things around for yourself? Meditating is a good way for you to switch off and unwind a little. When you try and relax, you will notice that you feel calmer and more in control. If you don’t know how to meditate then you can download an app. When you download a meditation app, you can learn to focus and control your breathing. This can be done on a bus too, and people around you won’t even know you are doing it.

If you want to be super efficient, you can even try to get some work done. Getting out your laptop and sifting through your emails is a great thing to do, and you would be surprised at how much it could help you to alleviate the pressure you are under at work. Although you’re probably on vacation, this can be a great way for you to start focusing more on getting those niggling tasks out of the way, so when you land, you have a clear headspace.
