Part 6 – 1 Hour + 1 Mess = 5 Slow Cooker Dinners

Sharing is caring!

I know you have waited a long time for a new set of recipes. I am really trying to make sure that I don’t create recipes that are too close to previous recipes. This set has Philly Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken over Yellow Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken, BBQ Chicken, and Dr Pepper Pot Roast.

I love all these recipes but I think my favorites are the Spicy Chicken over yellow rice and the Philly Chicken sandwiches.

This has helped save me so much time and money in the kitchen. I can also make sure that our family is eating a good dinner and we are not wasting money eating out every time I don’t want to cook. I don’t have much of an excuse when I have these freezer bags with dinner already done!

In case you missed there are now 40 Crock Pot freezer meals! Check out Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4,  Part 5Part 7 , and Part 8 of my 1 Hour + 1 Mess = Crock Pot recipes.

BBQ Chicken

This meal can be eaten as sandwiches by shredding the chicken before serving. Or just eat the chicken and enjoy it with some delicious side items!

dr pepper pot roast

Dr Pepper Pot Roast

  • 1 chuck roast (2-3 lbs)
  • 16 oz bottle of Dr. Pepper (you can use diet or regular)
  • 2 large garlic cloves, diced
  • 1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce
  • Carrots (Add later)
  • Potatoes (Add later)

Write on the bag

  • Add to the crock pot with diced carrots and potatoes (you can chop these the night before).
  • Cook 7-8 hours on low or 5-6 hours on high.

Add all the ingredients to the bag (except the carrots and potatoes – I don’t like to freeze these items). This is not your typical pot roast but it’s has a great, unique flavor. Try substituting the Dr Pepper for Coke.

I have made all these dinner and I can’t believe how easy it has made my life. I have a seven year old, five year old and 2 year old – so it’s hard to find time to make a good dinner. I put the stuff in my slow cooker when my  2 year old naps and when it’s dinner time I just have to think about side items. This really reduce the mess in the kitchen.

Here is the printable version of the recipes.

Additional notes:

  • My slow cooker cooks at a high temperature, so please check your food to make sure you have the proper cooking time.
  • The fuller the crock pot, the longer it will take to cook your food.
  • According to the official Crock Pot website, you can safely cook frozen meat in your crock pot. If you still don’t like the idea, you can put the bag in the fridge the night before and it should be defrosted by the morning.
  • I use chicken breast from the large bag of frozen chicken. This type of chicken has a layer of ice which melts and can dilute the flavor of your meal. You will not have this problem with fresh chicken.
  • Never put the plastic bag in the crock pot. Always dump out the contents to prepare your meal.
  • When you freeze the bag, make sure the frozen lump (for lack of a better work) will easily fit into your crock pot.
  • One reader suggested putting the dinners into crock pot liners and then into the freezer bag.

Just wondering if you can use bone in chicken (whole cut up) in place of the chicken breast in the BBQ recipe? Does it effect the cooking time at all?

Im so sorry for the delay in answering your question. Yes you can use bone in chicken. Maybe cook it for about 30 minutes longer. Enjoy!

Thanks so much! You can change up the servings by adding an extra piece of chicken - but all the these recipes feed our family of 5 and we usually have leftovers.

I have made 5 out of the 6 parts and everyone of them turned out great. With 3 kids a career and a husband who has is own business this has been the greatest tip ever. Not only is it saving money but my family is eating better but the greatest benefit is having time to enjoy my family in the evenings. It has brought a lot of peace of mind not having to think about what I'm going to make for dinner or being tempted to just grab fast food on the way home. All the meals make enough for all five of us for dinner and most make enough for mine and my husbands lunch the next day. I tell everyone about this site and this idea. I hope you post some more soon.

Question on the Sweet and Sour chicken, my moms group and I have made two meals now with pineapple and for some reason both have turned out lacking in the flavor department (one was not your meal). Any thoughts? I have not personally made the Sweet and Sour chicken yet (intend to this week) but received the feedback from a couple moms. I am looking online for suggestions to pump up the flavor. We all work long days so we wondered if its just too long for the pineapple to keep its flavor? Doesn't even taste that strongly in the sauce.

Otherwise I love you meals and often use them!

Im so glad you have been able to make my meals to make dinner time much easier! You could be right about the long cook times, maybe add the pineapple during the last 45 minutes? I usually don't cook them that long so that could be why it doesn't have a lot of flavor.

Will you please post a recipe for the yellow rice that is listed in the spicy chicken and yellow rice crock pot recipe? I have tried a lot of your crock pot recipes and enjoyed them. Thanks!
