DIY Project – Homemade Bleach Pen

Sharing is caring!

I have seen so many DIY projects. Some seem too good to be true. Some seem like too much work to even bother. So I am going to try to test out a DIY project once a week and give you my feed back. One of my absolute favorite sites for DIY projects is One Good Thing By Jillee. She is amazing and she is usually writing about something I could really use.

Recently she posted about a homemade bleach pen. I must tell you, I am afraid of bleach. I hardly ever use it. I have messed up too many things with bleach. A few months ago my daughter had a few stains on her pretty white shirts, but I couldn’t bleach the whole thing. I bought a Clorox bleach pen and it was the best thing I have ever used!

Well the bleach pen is gone but we still have new stains on white clothes. So instead of buying a new pen, I tried Jillee’s Recipe.

DIY Bleach Pen

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 TBSP cornstarch
  • 5 TBSP bleach

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan add the cornstarch to the water. Mix it around until the cornstarch has disappeared.
  2. Turn on the stove and stir until it begins to boil.
  3. Once it boils, turn off the stove and let it completly cool.
  4. Add 5 TBSP of bleach and mix.
  5. Add it to a squirt bottle. Store it in a cool, dry place.

The verdict

I love it! I think I used a little too much bleach so it’s a little runnier than a gel – but it still works perfect for the random stains on clothes I can’t bleach. You probably already have all these ingredients in your house. This is a huge money saver if your family stains their clothes as much as my family does 🙂

It’s better if you store it in a darker container so it doesn’t effect the bleaching power. You can also use this on your tiles and grout.

Make sure you visit One Good Things by Jillee to find a ton of useful DIY projects that will save you time and mount!

I get really nervous with bleach too, and don't use it very often. This sounds like a great idea though!
