With kids – you need to learn how to clean a microfiber couch!
About 5 years ago I decided I was tired of my old couches. They were given to us for free, and I wanted something new. These couches were not really an impulse buy – buy we should have done more research and saved a little more money to get a better couch and love seat.
The material is microfiber. It’s really soft and looked nice. But what I didn’t realize is that any tiny drop of anything leaves a huge, dirty looking spot.
I can’t even sit on the couch with wet hair because it any water gets on the couch it leaves an awful stain.
I have 3 kids, so these couches get dirty. I was using soap and water to clean them, but you have to clean the whole couch because it will leave an outline where you clean. So I would have to wash the whole couch, and it is a pain, and it is hard work.
It does clean it well, and it takes a long time to dry. And of course, it doesn’t take long for a new stain to appear. Just the other day I scrubbed it before we went to bed. They looked so clean – for a moment!
My daughter didn’t feel good one night, so we went downstairs and got her a (bad) sippy cup with water. We fell asleep on the couch.
She didn’t drink any of the water – but the cup was empty. All the water leaked out and stained my couch! As you can see the outline of the water stain in the picture. It looks pretty gross – and it was just water!
Follow these tips about how to clean a microfiber couch.
Grab a little squirt bottle and filled it with rubbing alcohol. I squirted it around the stain and used an old cloth diaper to clean the area.
I then used the scrub brush. It’s supposed to help “fluff” the fibers, so the couch doesn’t dry stiff. And it worked!
Squirt the stain you want to remove and clean in a circular motion. It will look worse before it looks better. The good thing is it will dry fast so you can make sure you cleaned the stain.
Then let it sit for about 10 minutes to dry and it should be clean – or in my case cleaner than it was. These couches have been through a lot so I am happy that they still get this clean!
I am not an expert sofa cleaner. I am just sharing my experience with you. Please test it to make sure it will not ruin your fabric.
