Sausage bread is one of my mom’s go-to recipes. It’s flavorful and so easy to make. It’s the perfect recipe for me to share with my friends.  This recipe will take you about 10-15 minutes to put together. Less time in the kitchen = more time with friends.

Tips to make this easy sausage bread

You can customize this with any kind of sausage. I use breakfast sausage in a roll for this recipe. It’s a mild sausage that everyone likes. If you like spicy sausage you can use hot Italian sausage, or you can even try sweet Italian sausage if you like those flavors. Just make sure it’s ground sausage.

Instructions for sausage cheese bread:

Let your dough rise for about 30-45 minutes until it doubles in size. Keep in in a warm spot and cover it with a dish towel.

Preheat your oven to 375* F. Cover a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil, parchment paper, or olive oil. Set the prepared baking sheet aside.

Cook sausage in a large skillet. Crumble it up and cook it completely over medium-high heat. Drain off any grease and set aside. If it feels extra greasy you can place a paper towel in a large bowl and add the cooked sausage to drain off more fat and excess grease.

Put the loaf of dough on a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll out to about 18 inches long and 10 inches wide. (It doesn’t have to be exact – you just want a rectangle.)

Add the cooked sausage to the dough. Place it about 1 inch from the bottom and side edges. Top it with mozzarella cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic.

You want about a 1-inch border between the sausage, cheese, and spices and the edge of the dough.

Brush the egg whites over top of the dough and add some parmesan cheese to the top of the bread. Move the sausage roll to the cookie sheet and form it into the shape of a horseshoe so it fits better on the cookie sheet.

Bake it for 25-30 minutes until it is golden brown. Serve with some marinara sauce or pizza sauce and enjoy!
