Earlier this year we bought a house. The county we wanted to live in has amazing schools – but a shortage of houses. So after looking at a few older houses and a few model homes from a builder, we decided it would be better to build a house. It was so nice to be able to pick out the colors of the paint and cabinets and to decide where we wanted carpet and tile.
We would stop by the lot a few times a week to watch the progress of the house and get excited as we planned to spend holidays and birthdays in this home together.
This house is a lot bigger than our house in Mexico and the two bedroom apartment we lived in while they were building our new home. I needed a plan to make sure I could quickly clean up without having to spend a lot of time cleaning it. For example, to make sure I vacuum on Mondays and Thursdays. The bathrooms get cleaned on Wednesdays. On Sunday, I fold and put away all the laundry; and on Tuesday, I dust.
To make dusting easier, I wanted to make a mitten with all the microfiber cloths I had lying around. It’s a lot faster to spray on the cleaner and wipe off my furniture, baseboards, trinkets, etc. But I don’t know how to sew. (I know my mom is going to shake her head at me!) I have become pretty good at creating things with hem tape and my flat iron (because I don’t even own an iron).
My go-to cleaner is Pledge®. I love Pledge® Lemon and Orange Clean Furniture Spray – it smells great and it cleans many surfaces like wood, laminate, stainless steel, leather, marble, granite, and plastic. The Pledge® Multi Surface Everyday Cleaner with Glade® Rainshower® cleans all that and more, including porcelain, glass, and electronics, plus it has Allergen Trappers® to remove dust and up to 90% of the allergens found in dust.
So if you are ready to make it easier to keep your house beautiful – grab a few supplies and make a few of these (incredibly) easy cleaning gloves!
DIY No-Sew Cleaning Glove
- microfiber cloths
- hem tape
- flat iron (or iron)
- sharp scissors
Instructions:
Plug in the iron so it heats up while you get your supplies ready. Fold the microfiber cloth in half. Place your hand over it and cut a little piece of it about 1-1/2 inches above your middle finger. With sharp scissors, cut a line across. (Don’t worry it doesn’t have to be straight – you can fix that later).
Measure the hem tape about halfway along the top where you made the cut. Open the cloth and place the hem tape between the cloth.
Using the flat iron (or your iron), heat the cloth. This will cause the hem tape to melt and become a glue that will seal the edges.
Now it is ready to make cleaning so much easier. I made a few of them in less than 10 minutes.
Now, when it’s Tuesday, I can zoom through the house and easily clean all the surfaces that have dust, smudge marks, dirt and more. No time to make a cleaning glove but you still want the cleaning power and fresh lemon scent from Pledge®?
Since moving into our new home, we have bought furniture that we want to take care of so it looks nice for a long time. I love that when I use Pledge® it takes care of and protects these special items. I can trust Pledge® to keep things beautiful and bring a brilliant shine to my favorite things. Because I can use Pledge® on so many surfaces and it smells great, I look forward to cleaning on Tuesdays!

I'm terrible at sewing. So when I see DIY posts without sewing involved, I'm all about it!

Wow, I haven't thought of this. I hate sewing because I don't have a machine, sounds like a brilliant idea!

This is pretty clever. I'm going to have to make one! Pledge is so useful when you're dusting and cleaning.
