Sweetened Condensed Milk Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

I love to bake cakes and cupcakes. Sometimes I get bored with traditional buttercream icing. So I experimented a little bit and made a very delicious and popular icing that was made with sweetened condensed milk.

My Vanilla Sweetened Condensed Milk Buttercream Frosting recipe has been a huge hit on my blog and with people that have tasted the recipe. And I started to get some requests about how this could be a Sweetened Condensed Milk Chocolate Buttercream Icing.

If you want to add this to a delicious cake – check out how to make a box cake mix taste like a homemade cake – but it’s so much easier!

So I played around with the ingredients again and I now have a new recipe to share with you. Sweetened Condensed Milk Chocolate Buttercream Frosting is thick and decadent. It will take any plain cake flavor and add a velvety flavor to it when you make this icing.

I like a thick icing on my cupcakes but you could add more sweetened condensed milk to thin it out and use it on a cake. It will generously frost 12 cupcakes or you can frost 24 cupcakes with a thin layer of icing.

If you are making a layer cake, I would double the recipe so you can have a nice thick layer in the center but it should be enough for a 9×13 cake.

This is such an easy recipe that is just sweetened condensed milk frosting made with cocoa powder!

Sweetened Condensed Milk Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

  • 2 sticks of butter, softened (1 cup)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • – ½ cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions:

Using a mixer (I prefer a standing mixer) beat the butter for about 2 minutes until it is light and fluffy. Add the remaining ingredients and mix until it is well combined.

It will be hard at first and then once it’s all combined it will be a delicious fluffy icing you can use on your favorite cakes!! You can adjust the consistency by adding more Sweetened Condensed Milk.

You can also add a little more sweetened condensed milk to get it to the consistency you desire. This will generously ice 12 cupcakes or 24 cupcakes with a light smear of icing.

Yield: 24 Cupcakes
