What is a chaffle?
The original chaffle was basically eggs plus cheese cooked in a waffle iron. But then everyone got creative and turned these basic waffles into a customizable keto pizza recipe!
It is a keto-friendly recipe that was created so you could still enjoy bread without all the net carbs that are in traditional waffles. A chaffle recipe is basically a cheese waffle. It is a cheese and eggs mixture cooked in a mini waffle maker. It is delicious and you have no idea that you are eating cheesy eggs.
How do you make a chaffle?
A basic chaffle recipe is just 2 ingredients: egg and shredded cheese. You can adjust the flavor with different cheeses. This one also has almond flour to make it a little more sturdy.
Finely shredded cheese is better than thicker cheese, but if it is all you have it will work!
Whisk the eggs and stir in the cheese to create the mixture and then you place about 2 Tablespoons into a mini waffle maker for about 2 minutes.
They will crisp up a bit like a normal waffle. And if you want them to be a little crispier you can sprinkle extra cheese on the batter once they are in the waffle maker or let them sit for 1-2 minutes after removing from the waffle maker.
When you add coconut flour or almond flour it will give it a more bread-like texture.
How Do I Cook A Chaffle?
You need a mini waffle maker – it’s the perfect size. I have this Dash Mini Waffle maker to make a low carb pepperoni pizza chaffle. It cooks it perfectly. (My kids love to use it to make cookies in it too!)
You could also buy a mini waffle maker that makes 4 chaffles at a time. It would probably come in handy if you are feeding a lot of people! (You will also need a baking sheet for this recipe to bake the toppings onto the chaffle crust.)
The possibility are endless – you can make them sweet or savory. Today’s recipe is a savory chaffle recipe. It will give you your pizza fix in no time.
You don’t need to make this into a pizza. It’s so delicious that you can eat it without adding pizza toppings. It’s like a yummy piece of garlic bread. You could use this Italian chaffles recipe as bread and make a sandwich. Or a chaffle burger!
There are so many possibilities! Your dinner recipes just got better!
This recipe makes 4-5 chaffles – I usually have my husband or kids around that want to eat these so I like a recipe that makes a little extra. My kids also love these without all the pizza toppings.
Cut the recipe in half if you just want to make 2 chaffles. I haven’t tried to reheat them but they would probably reheat well in an air fryer.
Variations to this pizza chaffles recipe:
- Change up the pizza toppings to suit your personal preference. You could add bacon, pepperoni, veggies, sausage, onions, ground beef, mushrooms, Italian seasoning, parmesan cheese, or any of your other favorite toppings.
- Make a BBQ chicken pizza with some sugar-free BBQ sauce and chicken.

Pizza Chaffle Recipe (Keto Chaffles)
Ingredient list
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp of almond flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- pinch of salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400* and preheat and spray your waffle maker with non-stick spray.
In a small bowl combine the egg, cheese, almond, and spices.
Add 2 Tablespoons of the chaffle mixture to the center of the waffle iron.
Set a timer for 2 minutes. Open the waffle maker and if it’s your desired consistency you can remove the chaffle. If not, cook for an additional 30-60 seconds to get a crispy pizza crust.
Repeat with all the mixture.
Place the chaffles on a cookie sheet and top with sugar-free sauce, low carb pizza sauce like Rao’s marinara sauce and add a little more cheese on top of each chaffle, and your favorite toppings.
Bake for about 5 minutes until the toppings are warm. You can also set the oven to broil for a minute to brown the toppings if desired.
Serve and enjoy!
