Mother’s Day is just around the corner. I always like to give a nice, affordable gift and it’s also nice to give a homemade gift. We were at Walmart and decide that perfume would be a good gift to give Grandma.

My kids love to make pictures for their family members so I thought this DIY Mother’s Day Scented Candle would be a really great gift for Mother’s Day.   Plus we add some squirts of our favorite perfumes and it makes a reapply pretty and great smelling gift.

My mom always tells me that when she smells roses it reminds her of her mom, so I knew that would be the perfect scent to buy her.

Everyone loves candles. I remembered seeing a project where you could transfer your child’s artwork to a candle. I picked up all the items I needed for just a few bucks. My kids love art projects. And this project is one that can be displayed forever at Grandma’s house.

Instructions:

  1. Cut out a piece of tissue paper to the size of the candle. Use a tiny piece of tape and tape the tissue paper on to a regular sheet of paper.
  2. Have your child draw on the tissue paper. Make sure that they don’t cause the tissue paper to rip – it will not adhere to the candle if the tissue paper is ripped.
  3. Remove the tissue paper from the paper and (using a little tape) secure it onto the candle. Turn the hairdryer onto the highest* setting and heat the tissue paper. The wax will melt around the tissue paper and the drawing will be permanently part of the candle.
  4. Once it cools, spray the perfume onto the candle.

Tip – If you cut out an awkward shape, use a piece of wax paper to wrap around your image to hold it in place. Once the image is transferred to the candle you can remove the wax paper.

*The hairdryer will get hot if you get it near your hand. Make sure you move it around a lot to evenly distribute the heat.

This was a really fun project that I know my mom will love and my kids loved doing. My daughter asks every day if she can make more candles – so I need to go to the store to pick up some more pillar candles.

If you are looking for a personalized gift for mom this year – this is it! There is no need to spend a lot on a great smelling perfume.

Are you looking for a DIY Mother's Day gift from kids? This is a great gift for Grandmas or moms. It's a cheap and unique homemade gift. I love that you can add your child's artwork and your favorite perfume to make it scented.
