Mother's Day is just around the corner. I always like to give a nice, affordable gift and it's also nice to give a homemade gift. We were at Walmart and decide that perfume would be a good gift to give Grandma.
My kids love to make pictures for their family members so I thought this DIY Mother's Day Scented Candle would be a really great gift for Mother's Day. Plus we add some squirts of our favorite perfumes and it makes a reapply pretty and great smelling gift.
My mom always tells me that when she smells roses it reminds her of her mom, so I knew that would be the perfect scent to buy her.
Everyone loves candles. I remembered seeing a project where you could transfer your child's artwork to a candle. I picked up all the items I needed for just a few bucks. My kids love art projects. And this project is one that can be displayed forever at Grandma's house.
DIY Mother's Day Scented Candles
- White Pillar Candles
- White Tissue paper
- tape
- scissors
- hairdryer
- fine tip markers
- extra paper
- perfume (optional)

Instructions:
- Cut out a piece of tissue paper to the size of the candle. Use a tiny piece of tape and tape the tissue paper on to a regular sheet of paper.
- Have your child draw on the tissue paper. Make sure that they don't cause the tissue paper to rip - it will not adhere to the candle if the tissue paper is ripped.
- Remove the tissue paper from the paper and (using a little tape) secure it onto the candle. Turn the hairdryer onto the highest* setting and heat the tissue paper. The wax will melt around the tissue paper and the drawing will be permanently part of the candle.
- Once it cools, spray the perfume onto the candle.
Tip - If you cut out an awkward shape, use a piece of wax paper to wrap around your image to hold it in place. Once the image is transferred to the candle you can remove the wax paper.
*The hairdryer will get hot if you get it near your hand. Make sure you move it around a lot to evenly distribute the heat.
This was a really fun project that I know my mom will love and my kids loved doing. My daughter asks every day if she can make more candles - so I need to go to the store to pick up some more pillar candles.
If you are looking for a personalized gift for mom this year - this is it! There is no need to spend a lot on a great smelling perfume.

Such a pretty candle! I love homemade crafts like those. So easy kiddo could do it. When I was younger I would get my mother perfume. As we got older, sadly she developed sensitivities to most of them. So, now I worry about Mothers Day and her birthday is 2 days later. I have no idea what to get her this year.
What an awesome craft!! I may have to try this! Thank you!

Perfume a great gift idea for my mom because she has to wear perfume if she goes out. I'll have to get a bottle for myself to use on my unscented candles. Thanks for the idea!
