Chocolate Oreo Cake Recipe (Cookies & Cream Cake)

This OREO Cookie cake is the best cake you will make! It’s like eating a giant OREO cookie!

I love Cookies and Cream cakes…but I hate chopping up the OREO cookies and mixing them into the batter hoping that they all don’t fall and stick to the bottom of the baking pan.

Yes, I have tried to mix them with flour and I have even taken a little dry cake mix out of the bowl and mixed it with the OREOS – but they just don’t incorporate well into my batter!

So my solution is just to make a giant OREO Cookie cake! This cake will not disappoint you! It’s the cake I am making for Easter Dinner this year!

This cake is so good! It’s a Chocolate cake that starts with a boxed cake mix but when you add a few special ingredients…it tasted as it came from a bakery. It’s so moist and flavorful! You can find more details here about How To Make A Box Cake Better.

The vanilla buttercream is as good as the cream inside the OREO cookies. It’s so smooth and creamy. If you want chocolate icing you can make this Chocolate Icing With Cocoa Powder.

And the star of this cake is the OREO Cookie Crumble!! Unlike most cookies and cream cakes you bake the cookies inside the cake. This is a pain because they fall to the bottom and they also get soft.

My OREO Cookie crumble is just 2 ingredients and you cover the whole cake with it! So you still get that delicious crunch that you love from an OREO cookie!

Even though the cake is moist…you can easily stack these cakes. And even if you don’t feel like you are the most experienced baker…you can make this cake!

Ingredients

Chocolate Cake Recipe

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix ( I used Devils Food Chocolate)
  • 1.4 box instant chocolate pudding
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Change the water for milk according to the box instructions
  • Add 1 extra egg according to the box instructions
  • Add oil according to the box instructions

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 1/2 Cup Butter, softened
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Crumble

  • 18 Chocolate OREO Cookies
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter, melted

Instructions

How To Make Chocolate Cake:

Preheat your oven to 350*. Line 2 – 9 inch round cake pans with parchment paper and set aside.

In a mixer add the cake mix and all the ingredients. Mix until combined.

Divide the cake batter between the 2 cake pans. Bake for about 22-25 minutes until a knife comes out clean. If you need to add more time, do it in 3-minute increments.

Let cool completely. Put one cake on a plate or cake stand. I like to flip the cake into my hand and remove the parchment paper and then put it baked side down on the cake plate.

How To Make the Vanilla Frosting

Use the paddle attachment on your stand-up mixer and beat the butter on medium speed until smooth.

Turn the speed to low and slowly add the powdered sugar until it is mixed in.

Slowly add the vanilla and heavy cream. Turn the mixer up to medium speed and mix for 1 minute until creamy.

Add additional heavy cream, if you desire a creamier frosting.

How To Make The Chocolate Crumble

Pulse the Oreos in a food processor until they are crumbly.

Mix together the crumbled Oreos and the butter.

Set on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and let it "dry" for about an hour.

How To Assemble the Chocolate Oreo Cake

Set one of the cakes on a plate. Add about 1 cup of icing and top it with the other cake.

Start frosting the sides with an icing spatula. Once the sides are covered, add frosting and spread until the whole cake is covered.

Place some wax paper under the cake plate. Add some of the OREO crumble into your hand and place it along the sides of the cake. Go completely around the cake. You can scoop up what falls on the wax paper.

Add the crumble to the top of the cake until as much of the white frosting is covered.

Serve and enjoy!
