I always felt like McDonald’s big mac sauce tasted like a combination of french dressing and thousand island dressing. Unlike most burgers, this one doesn’t not include other condiments like ketchup, yellow mustard, or mayonnaise.
You can use this McDonald’s special sauce recipe for a Big Mac Salad or to dip some chicken tenders or chicken nuggets.

The original formula for the Big Mac was created by McDonald’s franchise owner Jim Delligatti. He operated several McDonald’s restaurants in the Pittsburgh area. When it debuted in 1967 it was only $0.45. It was added to the menu of all U.S. McDonald’s restaurants in 1968.
The first 2 times they tried to launch the Big Mac they failed. They had different names. They were called the Aristocrat and the Blue Ribbon Burger. Esther Glickstein Rose, a 21-year-old advertising secretary named it a Big Mac and the rest is history!

Big Mac Sauce Recipe
(Big Mac Sauce copycat recipe)
Ingredient list:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 4 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika powder
Instructions To Make Homemade Sauce:
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl or glass container until well combined.
Serve on burgers, or with fries.
How to assemble your homemade version of McDonald’s Big Mac burger if you want to make it the right way!
Spread a little copycat Big Mac sauce over the bottom base.
Layer some chopped white onion, shredded lettuce, a slice of American cheese, lean ground beef patty and some pickle slices.
Add the middle bun layer, then spread with more homemade Big Mac sauce, onion, lettuce, pickles, another burger patty and then finish with more McDonald’s special sauce on the bottom bun.
Store the leftover sauce in an airtight container. Use this famous sauce within 5 days.
