Green Carpet Cleaning

I have 3 little kids, so lately I have been trying to be a little more conscience about what we eat. I have been making a lot of snacks for our kids. Plus we eat many meals at home so I know exactly what ingredients are in our meals. I hate that so many products have preservatives and other ingredients that aren’t so great for us.

I also started to think about the chemicals we use to clean our house. My kids have never been tempted to see what is under the kitchen counter – but if they did – there is some dangerous stuff in there. (It has a lock.) Using vinegar based cleaning products are a lot better. One sniff of that cleaner and I think my kids would run the other way.

But how do you clean your carpets? I know my carpets could use some cleaning and I found a great place that is a “green” carpet cleaner. Chocolate Cups Cake With Vanilla Frosting

We love chocolate cup cakes with vanilla frosting. I prefer to make a cake but my kids love having their own cup cakes. Plus when I make these – I tend to share more and not eat so many myself. This is one of my go-to recipes for desserts or parties. We even made these one year and sold them for Valentine’s Day!

Chocolate Cake

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 1 small box of chocolate instant pudding
  • 8 oz chocolate or plain yogurt
  • 1 extra egg
  • Replace the water with chocolate milk
  • And any other ingredients listed on the box (usually oil)

Bake the cake at 25 degrees lower than directed and for about 5 minutes longer than directed. Just check it to make sure it doesn’t burn.

This makes a lot more cake than just a box of cake. I fill my 9 X 13 pan about 2/3 of the way and then I can make about 10 cup cakes with the left over batter. The recipe below doesn’t make enough icing to ice all the cupcakes. Because it uses so much butter and powdered sugar, I usually make a half batch of chocolate icing.

Vanilla Butter Cream Icing (about 22 cupcakes)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 to 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  1. Place the butter in a large mixing bowl. Add 4 cups of powdered sugar ,milk, and vanilla.
  2. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed  until smooth and creamy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Gradually add the remaining sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition (about 2 minutes), until the icing is thick enough to be of good spreading consistency.You may not need to add all of the sugar.

If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and mix thoroughly. The icing will set if chilled. Frosting can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
