Easy London Broil Marinade Recipe

Sharing is caring!

Check out this easy London broil marinade recipe with just a few ingredients!! It’s a family friendly London broil recipe that will leave no leftovers!

I love to grill! It’s such a healthy way to enjoy our meals! Whenever I go to the grocery store – I make sure to grab this specific cut of meat when it’s on sale. It’s the only thing I make when we have people over for a BBQ!

We take advantage of warm and late summer nights, and we have Grilling Friday at our house just about every Friday night. We invite people over and hang out for a few hours. We moved into a new neighborhood last year – so it was a really great way to get to know people.

We tell our friends we can make the main dish and they bring the side dishes like mashed potatoes, chips, or potato salads. Or I will throw together a simple salad with balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar. (Check out my favorite salad recipe – it was my Grandma’s recipe!)

My specialty is making London Broil. This recipe has lots of flavor! It’s a pretty cheap cut of beef that can feed a lot of people. And with my marinade – this particular cut of meat becomes very tender. Our guests usually don’t even know about this cut of meat, and they are excited to try something new.

We love to serve a steak dinner for a weeknight meal or on special occasions. When you use a tougher cut of meat and a good marinade, you have an easy dinner recipe.

It’s a very simple marinade that is just 3 ingredients. Throw it together and marinate the meat for a few hours and you will have a delicious dinner. Get the printable recipe.

What Cut of Meat is Best Used for this London Broil Recipe?

I was surprised to find out that the term London Broil is not necessarily the type of meat but the way you cook it. It is usually known as a top round steak or a flank steak. It is marinated for several hours or overnight for the best flavor.

It is a tough cut of meat but after you marinate it – it breaks up the connective tissue to make it less chewy. It’s an inexpensive cut of meat.

You can also use this marinade on other cuts of meat like: skirt steak, New York Strip, top sirloin steaks and more. It’s the best way to take an inexpensive cut of beef and turn it into a flavorful piece of meat the whole family will love.

What is the best way to make a London broil steak?

First, you need to let the meat rest for about 30 minutes to get it closer to room temperature.

To make the best London broil recipe, I like to cook it on an outdoor grill over medium-high heat. Or another cooking method is to put it in a broiler pan and broil it in your oven.

When marinated and broiled under high heat, it is tenderized and cooked perfectly. If you have a cast iron pan, you can sear it on the pan and then finishing cooking it in the oven.

Flank or top round steak is known to be a tough piece of meat but for best results, you need a good marinade. Prep time is easy because you can throw all the ingredients in a container and let it marinate.

The total time to make this meal when your guests arrive is less than 20 minutes on the grill (depending on the thickness of the meat). Make sure you have a meat thermometer, so you do not overcook it!

Seasoning for the London Broil Marinade:

My favorite seasoning for so many meats is Montreal Seasoning. The ingredients are: Coarse Salt, Spices (Including Black Pepper and Red Pepper), Garlic, Onion, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavor, and Extractives of Paprika.

When you add the seasoning to the soy sauce and oil it creates an easy marinade that helps break down the tough steak into a delicious and juicy steak dinner.

Variations for this flavorful meat marinade:

  • You can use worcestershire sauce instead of soy sauce.
  • You can add 1-2 Tablespoons of brown sugar to the marinade if you aren’t avoiding sugar.
  • If you want a little tang – add a tablesppon of dijon mustard.

How to make the best London Broil marinade

  • 1/3 cup Soy Sauce (You can also use low sodium soy sauce)
  • 1/2 cup olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 2 Tablespoons steak seasoning (Montreal Steak Seasoning)
  • 2-3 pounds London Broil (top-round steak or flank steak)

Instructions

In a small bowl or shallow dish, mix the soy sauce, olive oil, and steak seasoning. Pour marinade into a long and shallow airtight container or a zip-top bag. Move the container around to fully cover the meat.

I love to use a resealable plastic bag for easier cleanup. Add all the ingredients to the bag and remove the excess air and seal bag.

Put it in the refrigerator overnight for the most flavorful steak or for at least 3 hours to marinate for a tender end result.

Preheat your grill to a high temperature (about 400 degrees). If your London Broil is about 2 inches thick, you can cook for 7 minutes on each side for a medium-well cooked meat or if you want it a little more on the rare side, cook for about 5 minutes on each side.

Using an instant-read thermometer, check the internal temperature. The cooked steak should be at least 125* for a rare steak but my preference is 145*. exact cooking times will vary based on the thickness of your meat.

Transfer steak to a cutting board with room to catch the excess drip for the juicy meat. Let the meat sit for at least 10 minutes on a cutting board before using a sharp knife to cut it into slices. You can loosely cover it with aluminum foil and then cut it into thin slices.

Serve this tender London broil with your favorite sides and cold drinks! Your guests will want to come back to all of your BBQs! And they don’t need to know that this is an affordable steak recipe.

This is an easy London broil marinade that will give you a juicy London broil. I love it because if you have a large family – it’s a great way for your family to enjoy a steak dinner!

But please note – that this particular piece of meat does tend to have muscle fibers that can cause the meat to be chewy. Just cut it into thin slices. It’s not going to be a perfectly tender steak – but it will be a good steak!

It’s even delicious the next day! My favorite way to eat the leftovers is on a salad.

  • Tip – You can also use this marinade on pork chops, Rib Eye and Sirloin Steaks.
  • I also use this cut of meat to make my Chipotle burritos. It’s an easy recipe that cooks all day in the crock pot and has so much flavor!

This summer – get to know your neighbors and host a Grilling Friday Party. This marinade will make a very tasty dinner! If you are serving burgers – you have to make this copycat Big Mac Sauce from Mcdonald’s.

Looking for more steak recipes? Did you know you can make steaks in the air fryer?? I didn’t believe it either. You have to try it!

Or make a steak in a cast iron skillet. You make a herb butter and cook it in the oven!
