Did you know you can cook frozen wings in your air fryer and have them ready in less than 30 minutes? You can have crispy chicken wings anytime you want with this incredibly simple method. It is truly the best air fryer wings recipe for those nights when you forget to defrost dinner!
Can you air fry frozen chicken wings?
Yes! In fact, the air fryer is the absolute best way to cook them. Unlike an oven, which can make frozen meat soggy, the rapid air circulation in the air fryer evaporates the frost quickly, leaving you with healthy air fryer chicken wings that are juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Why You’ll Love This “No-Thaw” Method
- Zero Prep: Go straight from the freezer to the air fryer basket.
- Faster Than the Oven: No waiting for a giant oven to preheat or stand over a hot grill.
- Extra Crispy: You get that deep-fried crunch without the heavy oil or a deep fryer.
- Perfect for Small Batches: It’s an easy way to make a quick appetizer or a meal for two.
What You Need (Keep scrolling for the full printable recipe)
- Frozen Chicken Wings: 7–10 wings (unbreaded works best).
- Olive Oil or Cooking Spray: This helps the seasoning stick to the frozen skin.
- Dry Rub: I love using Everglades Seasoning (it’s a Florida favorite you can find at Publix!).
- Dipping Sauces: Buffalo, BBQ, or even ranch and blue cheese dressing.

How to Air Fry Frozen Chicken Wings: Step-by-Step
1. Arrange the Frozen Wings
Place your frozen wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It’s okay if they touch slightly at first; as the ice melts and they begin to cook, they will shrink.

2. The Initial Defrost Cook
Set your air fryer to 400°F and cook for 10 minutes. This initial blast of heat thaws the wings and starts the crisping process.
3. Flip and Season
After the first 10 minutes, open the basket and flip the wings. Now that the skin is damp and thawed, your seasoning will stick perfectly! Lightly spray with olive oil, then generously add your dry rub.

4. The Final Crisp
Set the timer for another 15 minutes at 400°F. For the best results, flip the wings every 5 minutes during this stage. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Serving and Side Dish Ideas
These wings are a perfect last-minute meal. To complete the plate, try:
- Classic Style: Serve with cold celery sticks and carrots.
- Air Fryer Sides: If you have a second air fryer, toss in some loaded tater tots!
- Pro Tip: If you prefer “wet” wings, toss them in your favorite buffalo or BBQ sauce after they finish cooking to maintain that maximum crunch.
Frequently Asked Question
How long does it take to cook frozen wings? Usually 25–30 minutes at 400°F. If you have fresh (unfrozen) wings, they actually take about 10 minutes less. You can check out my Fresh Air Fryer Wings Recipe here for those instructions!
How do I store leftovers? You can store any leftover wings in an airtight container for up to 2 days—though they are so good, you probably won’t have any!
What if my wings aren’t crispy enough? Every air fryer is different. If they aren’t crunchy yet, just add an additional 5 minutes at 400°F.
This guide is specifically for wings starting from frozen. If you are using fresh, thawed wings today, the timing is slightly different. Check out my for the adjusted instructions.
Easy Frozen Chicken Wings In Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 7-10 frozen chicken wings (The number of wings will depend on the size of the wings and the size of your air fryer)
- If necessary for your air fryer, a little cooking spray or a little extra virgin olive oil.
- Your favorite spices or dipping sauce
Instructions
- Place wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. The cooked wings will shrink a little so you can let them touch for the first 10 minutes. If you are using seasoning, you can sprinkle some on it now. But wait until the end if you are using your favorite sauce.
- Cook for 10 minutes at 400 degrees f.
- After the first 10 minutes, flip the chicken wings and season the other side.
- Set the air fryer to 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Flip the wings after every 5 minutes of cooking.
- Use a meat thermometer to check if they are done. The chicken wings are cooked when the internal temperature reaches 165*. If they are not fully cooked - flip them and add an additional 5 minutes AT 400 degrees.

We had these before and it's so tasty. Try a Korean fried chicken sauce after. It needs common ingredients, but also something that's harder to find, gochujang. Amazon carries it for a good price. We use bibigo. Their mandu is really good too.
